What Jesse Palmer hath joined together can, sadly, be put asunder. The Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner appeared to have found his forever partner in Theresa Nist. They seemed poised to move into their golden years together and talked about relocating closer to the bride’s family following their January 4 wedding.
But on April 12, the couple announced that they’re divorcing after a mere three months of marriage. Now insiders are saying that Gerry lied to Theresa and never had any intention of leaving his Indiana lakeside home to make a life with her.
Gerry allegedly misled his bride
On the morning of April 12, Gerry and Theresa announced their divorce. Just a few days later on April 16, Life & Style published some additional background information.
Apparently, the big obstacle to their relationship was deciding where they would live as a couple. While Theresa lives in New Jersey, Gerry has a lake house in Indiana, which he and his late wife built together. At one point, it looked like Gerry might move to New Jersey to live with Theresa in her home.
“Gerry said he was moving to be with Theresa, which we now know wasn’t true,” said an anonymous source. “But this isn’t the first time he’s been caught in a lie … Bottom line, Gerry never really had any intention of moving to New Jersey to be with Theresa. He gets no more chances. His credibility is officially shot.”
At the time of the Golden Bachelor finale, the couple mentioned that they were thinking about moving to South Carolina. Theresa’s son Tommy lives there with his wife and three sons. At the time, Gerry expressed interest in the area.
But following the wedding, Gerry and Theresa each remained in their separate homes, raising questions across Bachelor Nation.
Leading separate lives
“The problem is, Theresa can’t just pick up and leave her job,” another source said. The woman is 70 years old. Isn’t it about time to retire and enjoy whatever time she has left?
“She has family in New Jersey,” the insider continued. “For the time being, they’re staying put in their separate states, but they don’t seem to mind … Theresa’s planning a visit to see Gerry this month, and they FaceTime and text.”
But just a few days later, the not-so-shocking announcement surfaced that the couple was ending their short-lived marriage. “We’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Gerry shared. “The thing that strikes me the most [is] how dedicated both of us are to our families … I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.”
The marriage is over, but it seems they were never really on the same page to begin with. “Yes, families and distance played a part,” the insider continued, “but Theresa really loved Gerry. She wanted to work at it more than him.”
So I have to wonder. Was Gerry ever really seriously looking for a wife? Or was the opportunity to star in a national TV show, travel around the world, and meet beautiful women just too much for him to resist? You be the judge.
