Below Deck Med: Captain Sandy ‘F*cking Mad’ at Bosun Luka Brunton

All eyes were on the new stew, Lily Davison, and her piss-poor performance during the most recent episode of Below Deck Mediterranean. Her prior boating experience involved zero laundry rooms, and the interior team was left pulling her weight.

But bosun Luka Brunton has started slacking in his responsibilities as well. Putting a schedule together, and making sure his crew got breaks was a recurring theme this episode. Chief stew Tumi Mhlongo was left waiting for the deck team on several occasions during the charter. The cracks were starting to show, and Captain Sandy Yawn took notice. Especially when the issue of safety came up.

“That’s not OK,” Captain Sandy said of Luka’s management decisions

On the December 4 episode, Luka got called out big time when the yacht was left without a single active deck team member on board. The bosun himself was out on the tender.

“We only have you on deck? That’s not OK. We need help with service. We always have two people on deck. This isn’t OK,” Sandy reacted after realizing that Lara Du Preez, Haleigh Gorman, and Max Salvador were simultaneously resting.

“It is important to have at least two deckhands on board in case of an emergency. I have to be able to maneuver [and] I have to hall anchor. Not only is it safety but we have guests on board. It is about service,” she stated. “The deck team is there to support the interior because now it is all about the food and service [since] there’s no water sports. We can’t only have one person. I need two. I’m not happy.”

The deck team also often helps run plates up for dinner. In the case of this particular meal, Tumi and second stew Kyle Viljoen were left without help.

To Luka, Captain Sandy said, “I’m not very happy. The priority is the food. Get Max up. This is the stuff that makes me mad. You have to figure your schedule out.”

Luka’s poor planning meant that his entire team “didn’t get their breaks” and were all exhausted by the end of the day.

“When Tumi called and called, the deck crew needed to f*cking answer. I’m f*cking mad,” she continued. Luka better buck up, quickly.
