Season 18 of Sister Wives kicked off with a bang on Sunday as Kody Brown claimed he was fighting a “Civil War” within his own homestead. Season 17 left off with Christine Brown ditching the family for greener pastures. Robyn Brown was still crying, and Meri Brown tried to win Kody back. Janelle Brown was at her wits’ end over her sons and husband’s feud.
Kody has never earned empathy from viewers. They felt he has been a narcissistic thorn in each wives’ side for years. While the father of 18 often spouted jargon like “love should be multiplied, not divided,” he began living a monogamous lifestyle with his fourth and favorite wife, “Sobbin Robyn.” The war that Kody talks about was brought on by his decisions, with no one else to blame but himself.
Kody Brown Is Delusional
People in America get divorced every day. While some are amicable, others are toxic. But to compare a crumbling marriage to a war-torn battlefield is preposterous. During the premiere episode of Season 18, Kody told TLC cameras, “The state of the family is strained. I mean, it almost feels like a civil war.” While this must be a heartbreaking time for the patriarch, he isn’t putting on a uniform and fighting for his life every day. To compare his strife with a real skirmish is like comparing apples and oranges.
For example, The American Civil War pinned brother against brother. The battle that raged from 1861 to 1865 between the Union and the Confederacy showed how strained the young country was. An estimated 620,000 died for what they believed in. Kody is dealing with internal family conflict but not to the same caliber. Kody is being extremely dramatic, especially since none of his wives have taken up arms against him and formed a militia. Per usual, the TLC star is trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.
Kody Has Said Dumb Things Before
Last season, Kody upset viewers when he said he tried to make his wives feel as like they had control over their own lives. However, in the process, he ended up with “no control” over his own. Kody put his foot in it when he said he had tried to “give my wives sort of this sovereignty” in an effort to be a humble leader. He also called Janelle and Christine “princesses” to insinuate they were spoiled.
Kody, who probably suffers from a God complex, also stated that he wanted his wives to “conform to patriarchy.” This was after Christine announced she would be leaving. In an incredibly bold statement, Kody told his remaining three wives, “I’m going to be the head of my household again. And so I’m not going to be circumvented in that.” Sadly, the man was a fool to think that would ever work.
Kody Is Tender
Kody is still, yes still, upset with Christine for choosing to move back to Utah and blames her for the failing of their polygamous lifestyle. The angry husband-to-one spoke out, saying, “Christine moved me out of her house a year ago, and she said we were divorced. Meri and I have infrequent interactions. We talk about what’s going on with the family. I haven’t functioned in a marriage-like relationship in about seven or eight years; it’s been a long time. Things are pretty strained. It’s like I can’t figure this out because I’m so upset.”
Instead of acting like a prominent general that he delusionally feels he is, Kody is acting more like Benedict Arnold from the Revolutionary War. Once a strong officer who fought with distinction, Benedict later defected to the British. If anything, Kody could possibly relate to this historical coward. Just like Benedict, when the going got tough, Kody chose to freak out and turn tail.
Kody has yet to take accountability for his treatment of Christine, Janelle, or Meri. While it would be nice to see Kody become a one, two, or even three-star general of his household, it looks more likely that he will continue to be a lonely private. Luckily, Sister Wives fans have a whole new season to look forward to that will undoubtedly include many more of Kody’s stupid comments.
