Thank goodness Real Housewives of New York finally came back. I felt like old lady Rose from the Titanic thinking it had been 85 years since Luann de Lesseps talked about cabaret. What we lost in Dorinda Medley, we make up for in getting to know Eboni K. Williams. Eboni is a spicy ball of fire and while she doesn’t replace Dorinda, she’s at least providing a buffer for those who are not enamored with Leah McSweeney making her sophomore run.
Leah is brassy. She’s ballsy. She has knuckle tatts. Not your average NYC high society chick, and it’s actually great because Ramona Singer has that covered. Fans thought Ramona and Leah would clash, and they did. But Ramona seemed to have an almost maternal affection for Leah. Despite Leah humming a ravioli in Mona’s face and yeeting her tiki torches into the abyss, Ramona showed a level of patience we haven’t seen before. Now we find out Ramona’s patience for Leah has extended into her second season – for now.
It appears Leah has fewer people on her side than she did her first year out. Fans appreciated a fresh face that wasn’t Bethenney Frankel crying and making everything about herself, but now Leah will need to work to be a favorite. She’s been kind of mouthy in the media and it didn’t portray her in the most flattering light. Leah hasn’t taken over the show, per se, but her presence is heavily featured. She is very opinionated, which makes for an excellent Housewife, but damn this girl talks a lot.
So far, Leah took us to fake Burning Man. She clocked Ramona on alleged plasma donation for virus antibodies. And, well, Leah’s wardrobe is a journey unto itself. Some people are overdosing on Vitamin L and they aren’t afraid to say it. Bravo fan account Christian Gray Snow shared the opinion on Instagram that Leah is ruining the season. He posted a photo of Mona, Leah, and Sonja Morgan while she was still upright and wrote, “Leah is ruining the season.” Then something otherworldly occurred because Ramona came to Leah’s rescue. Allow me to repeat, Ramona voluntarily defended Leah.

In response to the claim Leah is bad for business, Ramona replied, “Her grandmother was very ill and passed away the last day we were in the Hamptons.” Prepare the fainting couch! But Ramona wasn’t done. She also added what will now be known as my favorite part, “Give her a pass… FOR NOW.” Translation, Leah is in the midst of mourning a family member so we can’t put her in check, but you’re correct. Feel free to add the DUN, DUN, DUNNNNNN sound effects at your convenience.
Ramona’s nod to what lies ahead seems to foretell Leah possibly overstaying her welcome. Whether that means on RHONY or Ramona’s mansion in the Hamptons off the highway is up for debate. But you don’t need a crystal ball to see Leah is in the hotseat for the dreaded second season edit. We don’t know what Leah’s future holds on the show, but we’ll go ahead and give her that pass. For now.
