Patricia Altschul did all she could to make John Pringle and Madison LeCroy an item. The Southern Charm matriarch made it clear that she thought Austen Kroll was beneath dating her favorite hair stylist. In an attempt to set Madison up with a man more befitting her, Patricia plied Pringle with martinis and the idea of pursuing Madison.
It worked at first. Pringle and Madison hung out while their kids played baseball together, and by gosh there was some flirting going on. Pringle made his intentions known to both Madison, and laughably, Austen too. But after seeing Madison’s interaction with Austen during what was supposed to be his birthday party, Pringle’s opinion of Madison seemed to have changed. And this odd love triangle turned more into a bro-mance than a new Southern Charm power couple.
In an interview about the highs and lows of his first season, Pringle revealed to Decider the surprise relationships that he built during that time.
“Shockingly, I’ve become very close with Austen and I think maybe some of that comes through here at the end of the [season],” Pringle said, “it was rough going, just because of my behavior and the situation. I was kind of a lion being let out of a cage, so I didn’t really behave that appropriately.”

And although nothing came of her matchmaking, Pringle mentioned Patricia favorably as well.
“I was really surprised by how sweet…Craig’s [Conover] just like a good kid,” Pringle opined, “I mean he’s 33 but I’m 44. Also, I was really nervous about meeting Ms. Patricia. Apparently it didn’t really come across that way, but I could have sucked down that martini in two seconds, the one that I had. She was really kind to me. People could easily just shut you out.”

All in all, Pringle won over the cast with his laid-back manner. Really, the only drama he had was with Austen earlier in the season. In retrospect, Pringle does feel badly about the affect pursuing Madison had on Austen.
“I think I realized that Austen was maybe a little more hurt than I thought,” Pringle explained, “so I don’t think I would have been as disrespectful. Now that we’re closer we are now learning that it was very hurtful to him. So I’m glad we’ve been able to patch that up.”

Pringle’s other regret was imbibing too much. And that liquid courage was the catalyst for Pringle professing his interest in Madison to Madison’s boyfriend.
Pringle said, “I kind of let loose a little, people have noticed, but yeah, I had fun. But when I had my boys, it was a lot toned down, and people don’t see that. But I mean, a lot of times, we’re all hanging out. We’re all having drinks, and I just am the guy that keeps going. I need an off switch.”
