The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is here and a complete hit so far! Almost every scene in the first episode had fans’ jaws on the floor. The women brought fashion, a variety of cultures and religions, and a marriage to a former relative! Even Whitney Rose’s vow renewal caught fans’ attention. That’s right. A vow renewal to start her career as a Housewife. A choice and a half.
Any professional reality TV watcher knows a vow renewal is the kiss of death to a marriage on TV. There’s Vicki Gunvalson and Donn Gunvalson, Cynthia Bailey and Peter Thomas (barf), and Ramona Singer and Mario Singer. To name just a few.
Whitney shared with Entertainment Tonight that this season of RHOSLC was “one big, giant mirror” that’s helped her see just how much she’s grown in 11 years since walking away from the only life she knew. Whitney, who is 34, was introduced to viewers in the season premiere as she renewed her vows after 10 years of marriage. Some criticized the choice.
Unbothered, Whitney shared, “The vow renewal was happening regardless of the show…We always joked that if we made it to the 10-year mark — which in and of itself being a second marriage and an affair, we already beat, like, every odd against us, right? So, here we are and it was important to us to celebrate that.” What a strange yet logical way to approach a second marriage born from infidelity. I’m getting Margaret Josephs vibes from this one.

Whitney gave more context and revealed, “I didn’t get my dream wedding, I’ve been married twice and I never had the wedding I want.” She said, “The first time was at the Mormon Church with, unfortunately, the wrong person for me. Second time was in front of people who didn’t want us to be married and I was wearing [my prom dress].”
About her vow renewal and ceremony number three, Whitney added, “It meant so much to me to walk in front of people who love and support Justin and I, and I got to pick out whatever dress I wanted to wear and have the party I wanted to have!”

And what a party it was! So glad she got to party on a stripper pole with her dad front and center. Congrats girl!
