Real Housewives of Potomac star Monique Samuels might have let castmate Candiace Dillard know one thing for sure. She. Is. Not. The. One. There have been hints in the past that Monique isn’t to be messed with. As for Candiace, this isn’t her first time ducking after words are exchanged.
Candiace and Monique have enjoyed a friendship since the former beauty queen joined the show. Viewers watched their relationship struggle last season. At a hoedown (side-eye) given by Katie Rost, a heavily pregnant Monique even offered to drag Candiace during a heated debate. The tumultuous pair seemed to heal their friendship at the Season 4 reunion, but I’m not sure it took. It appears Monique might have talked the talk and walked the walk. Unfortunately, this walk might lead to jail.
On the bright side, obviously, Candiace isn’t too debilitated by PTSD after a maternal purse-smacking to attend events. Is there something about her that incites rage yes in people? Or is she an innocent victim of a society ready to snap? Whatever it is, Monique has ALLEGEDLY gotten herself into some hot water after some misadventure with Candiace.
According to a summons obtained by People, Monique “has been charged with second-degree assault from the District Court of Montgomery County in Maryland.” The incident in question occurred on October 16, and yes, cameras were rolling. A source shared, “the two were at a dinner party alongside their RHOP cast members when Samuels grabbed Dillard by the hair and pulled her down. Bravo cameras were said to be filming the incident the whole time, for the franchise’s upcoming fifth season.”

At least Monique is a woman of her word? Candiace wasn’t even trying to have it. On November 7, she filed a complaint directly with the court’s commissioner who found probable cause in Candiace’s complaint. A summons has been issued for Monique to appear in court on Dec. 23. Happy holidays! Also, haven’t we learned by now not to be so handsy?
If the judge finds probable cause, Monique can be arrested on the spot. A second-degree assault conviction comes with potential jail time. Candiace’s attorney said this, “At this time, we do not want to say too much and just allow the criminal process to play out. We only ask everyone to pray for our client Candiace and her family.” Is Candiace in ICU? No, she has other side effects from the “attack”.

Candiace’s lawyer shared, “The physical assault, humiliation and emotional distress have all been very painful and difficult for Candiace, as it would be for anyone attacked so viciously.” I wonder what her mother thinks about all of this. He added, “We pray that Monique will get some help. This behavior has no place in our society.” Didn’t his client toss a knife at Ashley Darby last season? Is Potomac the new Atlanta?
Monique’s lawyer had a comment as well. “Ms. Dillard has a public reputation for aggressive, belligerent and threatening behavior that has played out repeatedly on the Housewives of Potomac for millions of viewers to see for themselves.” That worked out so well for Michael Darby. He also feels Candiace’s claims are, “completely one-sided, inaccurate, and unwarranted.” Monique’s attorney continued, “Going forward, we hope that Ms. Dillard seeks the help she needs to avoid creating these kinds of unsafe and unfortunate circumstances in and outside of the workplace.” Is it me, or are both of these lawyers getting in subtle digs?

You might be wondering if this ALLEGED incident will impact Monique’s role on RHOP. I suppose she could be fired or suspended from the show, but Bravo tends to have a very lenient policy with their aggressive ladies. With all of the incidents of violence viewers are seeing across the Real Housewives brand, we’ll have to wait and see how bad Monique and Candiace’s ALLEGED fight went down. I’m sure we will be hearing Gizelle Bryant’s take on the situation at any moment!
