Ben Robinson is the self-proclaimed “crossover dude” on Below Deck. Ben was a part of the original cast and series, and also appeared on Below Deck Mediterranean. He has not only worked with all three captains, Lee Rosbach, Sandy Yawn, and Mark Howard, but also the Chief Stews that have become an integral part of their teams.
Kate Chastain and Hannah Ferrier are the leading ladies in their respective casts. And while Bravo has kept some fan favorites, most of the other crew are replaced. Ben was always a cast fixture, except for a few seasons where he chose to be on land with Emily-Warburton Adams. Now that Ben is back in the galley, it’s unsurprising that he is asked to compare Hannah and Kate.
Ben talked with Bravo’s The Daily Dish last week to give insight on his professional and personal relationships with Kate and Hannah. When asked who is more tough on him, Ben answered, “I outrank them.”
But Ben, unlike Hannah, isn’t one to call rank at every possible moment. So, he quickly moved on to his personal relationship with the ladies. He explained, “In a personal setting, Kate is probably a little tougher on me because we’re very close, we’re both Capricorns, we know how to piss each other off. And it’s a lot of fun. Hannah, I think she tries to be tougher in the field with me and it’s not going to work for her, ever.”

Kate definitely deals with Ben’s stress in the galley better. They both share a sense of dry humor, so it’s fun to see them riffing off each other. Kate also does a far better job of managing the guests with the timing of Ben’s courses. At times, it can be late or erratic.
Hannah and Ben do lack good communication. His expectation for service and time management of the meals differs vastly from Hannah’s. Of course, Ben would not be the first person to find Hannah’s work-ethic and organization lacking.

Ben enjoys a night out with Hannah, but as a friend of course. He never responded to her advances on Season 1, and that seems to be adding tension for Hannah now on Season 4. Ben said, “she’s a lot of fun. I do think reality TV does kind of change people a little bit. I think that it’s probably changed Hannah more than Kate.”
Of course, Ben would know better than any of us, A quick scan of seasons past reveal that Hannah is still up to her old tricks. She succumbed to conveniently timed migraines, called rank anytime possible, and had stews questioning her leadership.
