Apollo Nida Has Been Released From Prison After Serving Five Years

Much has happened since Apollo Nida appeared on Real Housewives of Atlanta. His wife, Phaedra Parks, filed for, and was granted, a divorce from him. But not so fast! Apollo contested the divorce. He said that he never signed the documents, and that his name was spelled incorrectly. The divorce was reversed. Since Phaedra is an attorney, that must be embarrassing. And awkward. Their divorce was finally settled in 2017. The couple shares two sons together.

Of course, Phaedra lost her RHOA peach after Season 9 because of the horrible rumors that she spread that co-stars Kandi Burruss and her husband, Todd Tucker,  supposedly wanted to drug and sexually assault Porsha Williams. That debacle was the final nail in the coffin of Phaedra’s time as a Housewife. Well, at least she has more time to devote to her careers as a funeral director/lawyer.

Apollo plead guilty to fraud, identity theft, and conspiracy and received a 96-month sentence. Because he cooperated with federal authorities, he received a lighter sentence. While in prison, Apollo got engaged to Sherien Almufti. Who says romance is dead? Sherien even popped up at the opening of Kandi and Todd’s OLG Restaurant to congratulate the couple on Apollo’s behalf. To say that the RHOA cast was surprised by her appearance is an understatement.  Apollo’s new love is also scheduled to appear on Say Yes To The Dress Atlanta. It looks like Sherien is enjoying her stint as a reality star.

OK! Magazine reported that Apollo has been released from the Fort Dix Correctional Facility and has been relocated to a halfway house in Philadelphia. Apollo will be at the halfway house until mid-October. In March of 2019, E! News discovered that Apollo’s sentence was cut to 84 months with credit for time served.

In a statement, United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said, “This defendant participated in a sweeping fraud scheme that exploited many segments of the financial system, including phony claims submitted to federal and state agencies, loans secured by vehicles and even basic identity theft associated with stolen checks.”

After his sentencing, Apollo’s attorney Thomas D. Bever spoke to E! News. “On behalf of my client Apollo, right now he feels remorse. He thought the judge was fair, and accepts his sentence, although he was hoping it would be less. Apollo is elated that this proceeding is past him and is no longer handing over his head. It meant everything to him that his mother and brother spoke on his behalf. He’s OK and will get through this.”

For her part, Phaedra has also moved on in the love department. She has been happily dating Chicago radio personality Tone Kapone since January of 2019.
