Viewers have been Keeping Up With the Kardashians, literally, for 16 seasons-– seasons. That’s because the first family of reality television keeps delivering the dramatic goods. This includes a whole new generation of adorable Kardashians. It’s hard to believe this empire was spawned by a sex tape that featured the first among equals Kim Kardashian and her ex-boyfriend Ray J.
A tape that Kim’s genius momager Kris Jenner used to turn water into wine when she shopped around their reality show. It seems another lifetime ago. Now the youngest sibling, Kylie Jenner is a mom and a billionaire. Almost as incredibly, Kim, who never graduated from college, is studying to become a lawyer!
An article in People detailed Kim’s plans to become a lawyer which she originally shared with Vogue. Last summer, the reality star decided to begin a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco. She plans to take the bar exam in 2022. It turns out that California is one of four states where studying with a practicing lawyer or judge is an alternative to law school for preparing for the bar.
Kim has gotten very involved in criminal justice reform. Last year, she successfully petitioned President Trump to commute the life sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, a nonviolent drug offender. After Alice was released, a major bipartisan piece of criminal justice reform legislation was passed by Congress. It was signed into law in December.
Kim said, “I had to think long and hard about this,” she said. But Kim’s decision was influenced by “seeing a really good result” with Alice. Then of the new law, Kim said, “That was really a turning point for me.”
“The White House called me to advise to help change the system of clemency,” Kim said. “And I’m sitting in the Roosevelt Room with, like, a judge who had sentenced criminals and a lot of really powerful people and I just sat there, like, Oh, s–. I need to know more.” That’s when the desire to educate herself grew stronger.

Kim said, “I would say what I had to say, about the human side and why this is so unfair. But I had attorneys with me who could back that up with all the facts of the case.
Kim pointed out it’s always a group effort and she knows her part. But ” I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society. I just felt like the system could be different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.”
Kim’s interest in the law isn’t new. Her father, the late Robert Kardashian, was a lawyer, who first made their name famous when he helped defend his friend O.J. Simpson during his infamous 1994 murder trial. Kim recalled that the defense team often gathered at their home on weekends.
“My dad had a library,” Kim continued. “And when you pushed on this wall there was this whole hidden closet room, with all of his O.J. evidence books. On weekends I would always snoop and look through. I was really nosy about the forensics.”
This summer Kim is scheduled to take “a baby bar” administered by the state. If she passes, she moves on to three more years of study. “First year of law school, you have to cover three subjects: criminal law, torts, and contracts,” Kim explained.

“To me, torts is the most confusing, contracts the most boring, and crim law I can do in my sleep. Took my first test, I got a 100. Super easy for me. The reading is what really gets me,” Kim admitted. “It’s so time-consuming. The concepts I grasp in two seconds.”
Kim wasn’t concerned about negative reactions. “I don’t pay attention to that anymore,” she said. “I love to be put in a situation where I can have a conversation with someone who might not be inclined to think much of me, because I can guarantee they will have a different opinion and understand what’s important to me after they’ve met me.”
Kim has her family’s full support: Kourtney Kardashian, told Vogue she thought Kim was hard-wired for law. ”She seems to have all the answers or something, like she just kind of knows.”
“Khloe [Kardashian] and I can be a little argumentative with my mom,” Kourtney said. “But Kim knows what she needs to say so that my mother can hear it and she can get her point across.”
Kris admitted to Vogue she “did not see this one coming.” “What didn’t surprise me was the way she embraced Miss Alice and how she was so hopeful for that outcome,” she added.
“When you find something that you’re that passionate about,” Kris said, “it’s not difficult; you don’t have to think about it–it just happens.” She must one proud mom. Will she get 10% commission from Kim’s future legal clients?
