We’re not out of the woods yet with Top Chef Texas! Like our beloved housewives, Top Chef also gets the reunion treatment, only the difference is the cheftestants don’t wear Loubies and there’s a distinct lack of satin prom-style dresses among them. But still, omnipresent Andy Cohen makes them all hang out together and relive all their old fights, because they’re contractually obligated to show up.
The most exciting piece of information to come out of the reunion was the rumor that Sarah told judge Emeril Lagasse to “eff off” during a heated moment. Per Andy, this was a rumor from the crew. Sarah claims she doesn’t remember saying that, but the camera immediately pans to an awkward “yikes!” look by fellow judge Tom Collicchio, indicating the rumor is most likely true. Sarah begins to cry, like we are supposed to feel bad for her, and starts rambling about how much she loves Emeril.

Both Tom and Emeril are too classy to back Andy’s question up and accuse Sarah of anything, and instead Emeril ends up even complimenting Sarah on her food. From Sarah’s track record on the show and her obvious disappointment at losing the title, it wouldn’t be far off to say that she did curse Emeril out while emotional. The biggest question is, why wasn’t this shown during the finale? Was it during a rare off-camera moment? Some producer out there really fell asleep at the wheel!
Unsurprisingly, the other big moment came from the truly awful Heather, who refused to apologize to Beverly for her constant bullying. To make things worse, she even added in a smug “Everything I’ve ever said is very truthful.” She and Sarah truly deserve each other as friends and I’m glad they were both on the losing team in the finale.
Speaking of Beverly, it was interesting to note, that per Andy, nearly all the reunion questions for this episode were about her. I wonder if the other cast members have watched the episode and learned anything from watching their behavior. I hope therapy is in the cards for some of these ladies.
All in all, it was a pretty lackluster reunion for a pretty lackluster season. I’m hoping Top Chef 10 brings us either a new format, more likable chefs, and less stunt challenges. This is one of the rare reality shows where talent is the main factor and to watch it degenerate into gimmicks and drama, is just sad. We have Bad Girls Club for that.
