In a controversial move, NBC's The Biggest Loser is tackling something new this season that has a lot of people talking. I guess that is the whole point of controversial moves, right?
For the first time in the reality show's history, it will be focusing on childhood obesity. Three young adults will be participating in the program, and trainer Jillian Michaels will be returning to assist the two teen boys and one teenaged girl get their lives back on track with a healthier lifestyle.

Before you get too heated about the teens being subjected to the same weight loss regimine as the adults, Jillian is quick to assure viewers that her work with the kids will not be about shedding a lot of weight. Instead, the teens will learn the tools they need to exercise, eat well, and develop a healthy lifestyle that will follow them into adulthood.
The Huffington Post is reporting on the show's twist. Unlike their grown-up counterparts, the teens will not be participating in the weigh-ins nor will they be subject to the eliminations.
Jillian tells the site, "The goal is to introduce them to an active lifestyle and make it enjoyable."
Childhood obesity has become quite the epidemic in our country, and I think that this show is a great platform to address it in a positive light. The skills these kids will learn will stay with them so that they don't find themselves in the same state as the adults appearing on the show. They will no doubt be inspirational to other kids like them.
"The Biggest Loser" premieres Sunday, January 6 at 9/8cst and then will move to its regular time on Monday, January 7 at 8/7cst.
