What happened in Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 5, Episode 5?

In this weekâs episode, Bronwyn drops a huge reveal about her daughterâs father. Whitney uncovers the alleged culprit behind the rumors surrounding her jewelry business, and Britani and Jared break up for good â but she still wants to be friends. Finally, Mary accuses Heather of âleaving a trail of liesâ wherever she goes. Here are some of the highlights from RHOSLC Season 5, Episode 5.
Bronwyn shares the story of her daughterâs birth with Lisa

Waiting at the airport in Milwaukee, Lisa and Bronwyn bonded over how her daughter looks like her. When Bronwyn pulled out her phone to show a picture of Gwenâs dad, Lisa realized that she knew him. She knows his parents really well. Bronwyn explains that she got pregnant when she was only 19. Her daughterâs dad actually passed away when she was two.
When she found out she was pregnant, she and her boyfriend went to see his parents. They were devout Mormons and blamed Bronwyn for the pregnancy. They called her horrible names and wanted her to just âgo awayâ until the baby was born and put the baby up for adoption.
But Bronwyn was determined to âdo it by myself.â Her boyfriend âwanted no part of it,â so she dropped out of college and moved home with her family. They accepted it as best they could.
Tearfully, Bronwyn tells Lisa, âIt is a total mind f*ck to think this is the best thing Iâve ever done, and so many people thought it was the worst thing Iâve ever done.â
Lisa has known the family for years. She remembers the devastation of their sonâs passing.
But Bronwynâs having a hard time âreconciling this âwonderful familyâ that you know with the family that has not made time in 18 yearsâ to meet their granddaughter. Thatâs shameful.
Lisa told the grandmother Bronwynâs story. She says thereâs regret there and that her grandparents would like to be a part of Gwenâs life.
âGwen wants to know about her dad,â Bronwyn says. âI think she should know everything she wants to about him.â Nevertheless, it will be painful for her because of the way they treated Bronwyn initially.
Britani got love-bombed by Jared while she was away

Heather shares a video with Whitney that she got from Britani the night they got back from Milwaukee. âI just walked in from Milwaukee,â Brit says. When she got home from the trip, she walked in to find four dozen roses along with a âbeautiful card from Jared.â
Of course, he wants to meet up, and Britaniâs tempted, but Whit and Heather both encourage her to stay away from him. She thinks he needs closure, and she âowes himâ that much. Donât do it, girl. Heâll suck you right back in.
Britani mentions that Lisa was âway too investedâ in her relationship and was the one who talked her into breaking up with Jared in the first place.
Then Whitney brings up that the necklace she gifted Lisa in Milwaukee was found in the trash. The manager from the guesthouse they stayed in called her and told her. Sheâs really upset that Lisa would just toss her gift like that. And it turns out that Lisa was supposedly the one who started all the talk about Whitneyâs jewelry line being from Alibaba.
Angie and Mary go to a hip-hop class together

Angie pulls up in front of Maryâs house. âYour charity awaits, my lady,â she says on her phone. Um, I think you mean âchariot,â hon. Angie and Mary are going to a hip-hop class where they run into Georgia Gay, Heatherâs daughter.
Meanwhile, Heather and Lisa are meeting up at the salt caves. The room is made out of 16 tons of Himalayan salt. Itâs supposed to be calming and healing.
Back at the dance class, Angie tells Mary sheâs still irritated with Lisa for bringing her daughter Elektra into their conversation. She points out that Lisa has had a problem with every single one of her friends. Could Lisa be the problem?
But over at the salt cave, Heather and Lisa are talking about Angie. Heatherâs stirring the pot, telling Lisa that Angie was throwing âout some jabsâ about her. She tells her that Angie said she doesnât let her daughter sit and play video games until 2:00 in the morning. Ouch. I have a son, too. Thatâs what they do. But mineâs in college and has a 4.0 GPA, cooks dinner now and then, and does his own laundry. Iâm not gonna complain.
Angie says Lisa is using the computer as a âf*cking babysitterâ for her 12-year-old son. Lisaâs not crazy about that. Stay in your lane, Angie. Kids are off-limits. And you just donât criticize your friendsâ parenting skills. Lisaâs hurt. She might have asked for some drama when she randomly brought up Elektra, Angieâs daughter, last episode. But this felt like a step too far.
Detective Whitney discovers the source of the rumors

Whitney and Justin are in the car driving their daughter Bobbie to soccer practice. After they drop her off, Whitney gets a call from a podcaster friend. Adam knows the person who posted the rumor that Whitneyâs jewelry line comes from Alibaba. So Whitney asked him to find out who fed the story to the site. She has suspicions, but she needs proof.
The culprit seems to be Lisa. No big surprise there. Now she knows she has a friendship with someone who really isnât her friend at all.
Meanwhile, Britaniâs meeting Jared for lunch. âI know that when I get in front of Jared, heâs very convincing,â she interviews. âI have a really hard time standing my ground and staying broken up.â
Apparently, on the way back from the Bucks game in Milwaukee, Lisa grabbed Britaniâs phone and started texting Jared âreally mean things.â
âThis is what I have a problem with,â Jared says. âPrivate conversations between people that love each other are private.â
Britaniâs insecure due to Jaredâs behavior. Even though he claims to be publicly affectionate, âHe doesnât post about me on social media, he wonât get off dating apps, and when we walk by cute girls, heâll drop my hand,â she says.
Britani just wants to feel âsafeâ and like he feels theyâre in a relationship. Instead, he says, âIâve given you everything I can.â
There you go. Heâs just not willing to give her what she needs. He says, âI donât want to lose the relationship, but you and I just donât understand each other. So letâs just put a pin in it.â
What does that mean? Are they going to revisit the topic at some point? Sounds pretty clear that he doesnât really want to be her boyfriend.
Gwenâs not so sure she wants to meet her grandparents
Bronwyn says as soon as she got home from Milwaukee she told Gwen about the info Lisa had told her about Gwenâs grandparents. They both needed time to process, so Gwen spent a couple of days in San Francisco with Bronwynâs parents.
Since her dadâs parents expressed wanting to see her, Gwen feels the communication has gone a little cold. She was excited at first, but now she doesnât think theyâre all that excited to meet her. She didnât feel their response was very âloving.â
Bronwyn says they sent a text saying they were ready to meet Gwen, but only if she was âin a place where sheâs ready to accept them.â Sounds to me like they donât want to be held accountable for the sh*tty way they treated Gwenâs mother.
Even though the text threw some cold water on the situation, Bronwyn says she knows Gwen wants them so badly âto want her.â
âThey had nearly 18 years to reach out,â Gwen says. â[But] they woke up every day and chose not to.â
âI just want to feel like I know something about him,â she continues. âBut I canât do that unless I meet them and have a relationship with them.â
Bronwyn explains that she always thought if she was just a good enough mom, Gwen wouldnât miss what she never had. She tried very hard to fill that missing piece. But now she realizes it wasnât fair to her daughter.
âOf course, youâre going to feel that absence,â she admits. Gwen is the only one in this situation who never made any choices, and now sheâs feeling the weight of all the choices everyone else made for her. Thatâs something Bronwyn says âwill keep me up at night.â
Mary accuses Heather of leaving a âtrail of liesâ

Britani confronts Lisa over her grabbing her phone when they were in Milwaukee and texting Jared âmean things.â She worries they wonât be able to remain friends because of it. Jared is not your friend, Britani. Heâs manipulative, and heâs chatting with other girls.
The conversation moves on to Mary running into Georgia at the dance class. Mary doesnât want to talk about it, since she was there with Angie. She knows Lisa and Angie are on the outs.
Next Mary challenged Heather for always âchampioning Lisa.â Even though sheâs known Angie since high school, in this case, Heatherâs on Lisaâs side.
âI feel like you leave a trail of lies,â Mary says. âLike the black eye. Then the fact that you champion body positivity, and now thatâs a lie, too.â
Lisa comes to Heatherâs defense: âWhy are we saying she was lying, because she said âbody positivityâ was a lie? She didnât say, âI was lying.â
Heather clarifies that the whole âbody positivityâ thing is a lie, because people say all bodies are beautiful, âwhen they really just want you to be skinny.â Heather has been very open about her use of Ozempic to lose weight, and she looks great.
âThe entire world is criticizing the way that Iâm losing weight ⊠or what I look like,â Heather says in a confessional. âMary, I donât need it from you, too. Iâm just trying to live my ⊠life, and have it not be about my body for once.â
