With the Real Housewives of New Jersey on hiatus, I thought it was time we looked back on some of the silliest storylines over the years. Thanks to a primarily unchanging cast of characters, the franchise found success with a group of friends who taught us that family is everything. But every so often, there was a storyline that was just a bit too hard to swallow, as it sounded so out of this world that fans frequently thought they were fake.
Let’s take a look at some of the silliest RHONJ storylines of all time …
Melissa Gorga’s lost sister – RHONJ mystery …
Back in Season 9, Melissa Gorga opened up to her friends about the truth about her beloved father. Anthony Marco was a bit of a playboy as Melissa revealed he had cheated multiple times on her mother. After sitting down with a medium, she was told she may have a long-lost sister. At the time, Melissa recalled there being an inconsolable woman at her dad’s funeral. According to the Envy owner, the woman couldn’t be comforted despite not knowing the family. Season 9 showed Melissa connecting the dots as she thought this woman might have been a mistress.
However, Donna and long-time viewers weren’t totally convinced by the medium. Six years later, fans are still waiting for Melissa’s long-lost sister to come out of the woodwork. Even though Melissa revealed she did try to follow up on a lead or two, including participating in the 23 and Me ancestry database, fans still didn’t buy the storyline and felt it was made up.
Will the real Siggy Flicker please stand up?
In Season 8, Siggy Flicker gave a cake fit for a queen. The Boca Raton native shared that the birthday cake was a “tribute to Melissa,” complete with Envy’s wallpaper. Honestly, I’ve never seen someone so attached to pastry. Melissa decided to start a food fight by throwing one piece at Teresa Giudice. However, you could feel the tension boiling over, especially when the OG hurled the entire cake back at her sister-in-law. Siggy was not pleased, as her face spoke volumes. She was livid, noting, “It’s so not necessary. Teresa, what is wrong with you!?” Firstly, I’m not sure who in production convinced Siggy that buying a $1,000 cake was the way to go. Siggy’s voice grew louder. “So f*cking classy. We’re going to have to explain to the restaurant that we’re from Jersey.”
The rest of the ladies couldn’t figure out why Siggy was so upset. And it wasn’t just due to the menopause. Siggy went on to complain, stating, “My IQ is a lot higher than these girls. Since you guys act like animals, I’m going to act like an animal, too. You girls can go f*ck yourselves.” Siggy continued, “Next time you bring your friends to my f*cking town, you better make sure they don’t act like this. This is my town. You can continue going out and acting like trash if you want to.” The whole storyline was ridiculous and gave off real Marie Antoinette vibes.
Cop Without a Badge – RHONJ Season 1
Danielle Staub was often off her rocker when she appeared on the Real Housewives of New Jersey, but no storyline seemed crazier than her Cop Without a Badge one. Viewers learned that Danielle, formerly known as Beverly Merrill, was arrested in Miami in 1986 in connection with a kidnapping and extortion scheme. Any RHONJ Season 1 fan is well acquainted with the book that led to Teresa flipping a table. At the time, Danielle was a part of a drug deal gone wrong that led to her arrest and month-long jail sentence. The mother of two’s issues are all documented in the memoir, which Dina Manzo allegedly passed around town. The book was used to discredit and shame Danielle. But the entire storyline felt like something out of a John Grisham book.
All of RHONJ Season 6
Amber Marchese appeared in Season 6 of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, but most fans tuned out. It was the season that everyone wanted to forget. Amber rocked onto the scene as a former friend of Melissa’s, but there was no lost love there. All Amber talked about was her cancer journey and interest in Tre’s upcoming jail sentence. If that weren’t enough, Bravo added the twins, Teresa Napolitano Aprea and Nicole Napolitano. Both tried extremely hard to create an interesting storyline. But all fans got was rumors about their mother, Santa, sleeping with Teresa’s husband, Rino Aprea. The allegations gave major “WTF” vibes and left fans wishing that RHONJ Season 6 could be erased.
Real Housewives of New Jersey is currently streaming on Peacock.
