After receiving racist online comments, Garcelle Beauvais’ son Jax has opted out of filming The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
This makes me personally very sad. I always enjoy seeing Garcelle’s sweet teenage boys on the show. But just thinking about strangers making hateful, racist comments to either of them really breaks my heart. Come on, people. They’re 16-year-old kids; not to mention racism has no place in any society!
On the August 27 episode of the Pop Culture Moms podcast, Garcelle shared, “Right before this season, Jax said to me, ‘Mom, I can’t do it anymore. It was too negative for me.’ I respected that, and so he’s not on this season at all.”
Too much negativity for Jax
In August 2022, Jax was targeted by racist commenters when his mom was feuding with her RHOBH co-stars. The comments included accusing the family of “using race for everything,” as well as bringing up his older half-brother Oliver’s past addiction issues.
Even though Jax went ahead with filming Season 13 of the show, he had a change of heart about Season 14. The current season began filming in May 2024, but a premiere date has yet to be announced. We’re expecting it to arrive before the year’s out, but nothing is confirmed.
“I always leave it up to them every season,” Garcelle explained, referencing Jax and his twin brother Jaid.
“When that happened with Jax, it blew my mind,” Garcelle continued. “Nobody deserves [that]. Nobody’s kids deserve it. But I thought, you know, he’s doing this because of me, and it’s our family … It was his first week of high school, and for him to be subjected to such ugliness … it was just horrible. It was horrible.”
Garcelle mentioned that Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice had offered her “real support” at the time.
“She reached out to me,” Garcelle revealed. “She was so cool, I’m getting goosebumps just saying it, like, she really came out and supported me –– more so than people in my cast, honestly.”
Jax just wants to be “a normal kid”
At the time he was under attack, both the Coming to America actress and her son addressed the hateful comments they’d been receiving. Bravo also released its own statement condemning the hateful comments, as did many of Garcelle’s co-stars.
Jax posted his own statement in August 2022: “From Jax … Well, I’d like to start off by saying I am still a kid and wish to not be viewed as a fully matured adult because I am not one. It is currently my first week of high school, and instead of enjoying it like most kids at my school, I have to deal with being attacked on social media.”
He went on to add that he wasn’t involved in any way “with the show’s drama” and just wanted to be treated like “a normal kid.” I’m glad he was smart enough to make the mature decision to just remove himself from the drama. Garcelle’s raised a couple of smart boys.
All episodes of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills are available on Peacock.
