Currently, John Janssen is being seen as the new Slade Smiley to some, but it’s not a great comparison. Real Housewives of Orange County fans first met John as Shannon Beador’s boyfriend. The duo dated for three and half years, but there were major kinks in their love machine. It takes two to tango but a lot of people aren’t holding Shannon accountable, for many things… Now, fans see a different side of the businessman as he is dating Alexis Bellino. Is it possible that John has been given a bad rap? And should viewers start laying off John in favor of giving the man another chance?
So maybe, just maybe, fans should cut John a break. If he treats Alexis the same, then it’s a pattern, and we can reestablish the club. But until then, let’s give him a chance to prove us wrong. We could be pleasantly surprised.
John Janssen is just an average Joe
When it comes to the men of the Real Housewives of Orange County, the bar is usually set pretty low. John initially came across as different from the others. He lived a quiet life consisting of work, working out, and family time. Shannon came from money, growing up with a silver spoon in her mouth. Early in their dating life, Shannon’s daughter noted that the Real for Real founder needed a man who could take care of her financially, and she didn’t think he could do that.
John has built his million-dollar fortune thanks to his passion for business. He works hard as vice president at Wood Gutmann & Bogart, but fans rarely see him spend his money. He has a nice house and a boat, which seems to be enough for him to be happy. John also grew up in a modest family. Could it be that John had never dated a wealthy woman before Shannon? Maybe we need to cut the guy some slack.
John Janssen was a reluctant reality star
From day one, it was obvious that John never wanted a camera in his face. Every time Bravo caught him in a scene, he was uncomfortable. While on the podcast Reality with the King, John opened up about his relationship with Shannon. He surprisingly had a few kind words for the mother of three. John shared, “She has a wonderful side to her. But I think people out there just assume John was the problem in the relationship, and I would just challenge people to think about what it might be like to be with Shannon.” John has a soft side to him and words from haters seem to be actually upsetting him.
John told the host, “I’m not on the show, but I think I’m talked about more than anybody else, which is pretty surreal.” Like any normal person, John is over the hate, adding, “They don’t know me. I’ve never even had a conversation with Emily Simpson, for example — and she definitely doesn’t like me, but she doesn’t know me. And they act as if they do.” John pleaded with viewers to pause on the trolling, saying, “My silence is largely responsible for people hating me and thinking I’m this bad person because all of these things that have been said about me have taken hold as truth over the last 4 or 5 years. And it’s hurt me. It’s hurt me.”
John deserves to be happy
Personally, I’m rooting for John to open his heart once more. Just like Shannon, John also deserves to find love again. Now, no one saw Alexis coming into the picture, but sometimes the heart wants what it wants. As an outsider, I have to believe that John and Alexis’s cute meeting at The Quiet Woman wasn’t planned, and if it was, who cares – people are allowed to date.
Until the latest episode, John hasn’t even been on the franchise. Apart from the lawsuits, I feel like he has been minding his own business. While forming the “We Hate John Janssen Club,” I think fans also forgot how he had a knack for calming Shannon down. Instead of riling her up like David Beador used to do, John had a soothing side. John also never seemed to be irritated by Shannon’s continuous and multiple outbursts, so hopefully she can find another patient man.
