Teresa Giudice and Rachel Lindsay had an awkward interaction at BravoCon a couple of years ago. Rachel found herself in a case of mistaken identity, with Teresa calling her Rihanna. What’s worse, Teresa met The Bachelorette previously but couldn’t quite place her.
However, despite the awkwardness of it, Rachel took it all too well. She figured their previous meeting only added to the Real Housewives of New Jersey star’s confusion. In all honesty, Rachel responded with an immense deal of grace – more than she had to. Read on to see how Rachel broke it all down.
Teresa “screamed” when mistaking Rachel for Rihanna
On a recent episode of The Ringer Reality TV Podcast, Rachel revealed a rather embarrassing exchange with Teresa. “Teresa thought I was Rihanna,” Rachel said. “Like, actually screamed when she saw me.” The former Bachelorette felt Teresa was being “very genuine” in her mistake. And despite the awkward mix-up, Rachel felt no hard feelings.
“She mistook me for another Black person. And I still liked her,” she admitted. “It was behind the stage at BravoCon two years ago,” Rachel detailed. “She thought Rihanna was hosting the panel that she was on. And I was like, ‘No.’ But she knew I looked familiar because I had interviewed her with Extra. And in her mind, it was like, ‘Oh, this must be Rihanna.’”
Allegedly, Teresa and the pop star talked over DMs at the same time as the mix-up, which apparently added to Tre’s excitement and confusion. Despite the awkwardness, Rachel and Teresa turned the whole affair into an inside joke. Every time the two see each other, Teresa refers to her old friend as “‘Rihanna!’ We turn it into something fun.”
Teresa’s lucky Rachel was so gracious, because a lot of people would say her mistake was a result of racial stereotyping.
