Real Housewives of Atlanta star Drew Sidora is amazed at the way her kids are dealing with her divorce from Ralph Pittman. Her three children have shown impressive “resilience” in the face of change.
Drew says her kids (Josiah, 13; Machai, 9; and Aniya, 6) are “thriving” since the couple separated in February 2023. Drew and Ralph were married for eight years.
“I couldn’t be more proud. [They’re] super respectful and just doing great,” Drew says. “I know it hasn’t been easy for them. But they give so much love to me, and I think they’re doing a great job just balancing and dealing with the changes,”
Dad lives in the basement
Her kids’ taking things in stride has been inspirational to her as she works through her own emotions. “Their resilience has given me strength,” Drew shares with People.
Her oldest son, Josiah, who she shares with ex Ricky Brascom, is now a teenager. “He’s a little taller than me now, so I’m accepting that he’s growing, and it’s crazy,” the singer/actress proudly says.
Her two children with Ralph, Machai and Aniya, are also growing by leaps and bounds. All three kids keep her busy with their various sports.
Even though Drew and Ralph are no longer living together as a couple, they still live in the same house more than a year after separating. Dad lives downstairs in the basement, while Mom’s still upstairs in the master suite. That can be a confusing situation for small children.
“It’s still not settled and yes, we’re still living together under the same roof,” Drew admits of the contentious divorce process. “I didn’t even know that could happen. I was like, ‘What?’ But yeah. He is living in the basement, and that was court-ordered.”
Even though it’s an odd living situation, Drew confesses that having both parents in the same house provides “some normalcy” for their kids.
Family is her “rock”
Drew relies on her extended family for support. It takes a village, after all, and Drew admits that “my village is my everything.”
“My sister, my sister-in-law, and my cousin came out to be there for me emotionally and help me with the kids,” she says gratefully. “My mom [has] been back and forth. She takes the kids with her to Chicago whenever needed. They have been my rock through it all.”
The Step Up star says she “never saw [a divorce] coming in a million years” and that it “saddened” her that she and Ralph weren’t able to work things out. She hopes that someday she’ll find a bigger “purpose” in her hardships.
“I just always hope my journey will help inspire other people in similar situations,” she says.
Real Housewives of Atlanta is now streaming on Peacock.
