Julie Chen Moonves Teases AI Twist on Big Brother 26: ‘Leaning Into the Madness’

It’s that time of the year! A new season of Big Brother is right around the corner, and after 25 years, they’re understandably trying to keep things fresh. CBS just announced that Big Brother 26 would have an “AI twist,” and at first, that sounded questionable. However, the forever Head of Household, Julie Chen Moonves, just shared more details about the AI-themed season that have piqued our interest. You can judge for yourself.

Big Brother Season 26 will embrace the AI

The funny thing about AI is that it seems like magic. It’s too good to be true because it is. Yes, it can spit out content in a second, but without the human touch, there are always weird mistakes. If you look at an AI-generated picture of a person, you’ll probably see eight fingers and three ears.

AI is fun to play with but far from perfect, and it sounds like that unpredictability is what Big Brother 26 is embracing. Julie spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the new season and said they were “leaning into the madness.”

“With AI people are like, ‘Oh gosh is it gonna turn evil?’ Well, who knows in the hands of Big Brother,” Julie quipped. “We are leaning into the madness but giving it our own special sauce.”

Who doesn’t love a little special sauce? According to Julie, viewers (and housemates) can expect a lot of the traditional Big Brother gameplay in Season 26. However, BB AI will add twisty elements to keep everyone on their toes.

For example, Julie described how the concept of the Have Not Room for BB26 is that AI got confused and created a room full of coffin-like beds. Whoops! On the other hand, it’s not always bad. Julie said it spit out some dreamy, larger-than-life designs.

She explained, “Then there’s also BB AI bedrooms that are gorgeous. One looks like, I think we’re calling it like Fairy Tale Fantasy Land. There are unicorns, it looks like a fairytale, a forest. If I were a little girl, I’m like, this is my dream bedroom.”

Regardless of the AI theme, Julie boasted that what makes Big Brother pop is the housemates. As long as the casting is good, the rest of the show falls into place. She’s not wrong.

She remarked, “Each year you meet a new group of people that you either fall in love with or maybe they get under your skin, but you can’t turn away. It’s the casting and the structure of the game.”

Big Brother 26 kicks off on CBS, Wednesday, July 17 and Thursday, July 18, at 9/8c.
