Why RHOC Season 18 Will Bring on a Real Housewives Renaissance

I think I can safely speak for everyone in the Bravosphere that we are more than ready to have the Real Housewives of Orange County back on our small screens. The original brainchild that has turned into a cultural phenomenon is deserving of great accolades. In 2006, viewers were granted unprecedented access behind the Gilded Gates of an enclosed community. No one really knew how the other half lived, but let me tell you, we learned quickly.

The women were a lot like us, except maybe with a bit more cash. But somehow, it worked. Almost instantaneously, fans fell in love with the OG women, and 18 seasons later, we still keep coming back for more. Get ready – the new RHOC is coming in hot.

RHOC has a new focus

No matter how hard Shannon Beador would like to pretend her DUI didn’t happen. It did. And cameras were there for most of it. We’ve seen messy moments in the past. For example, Tamra Judge yelled at the top of her lungs and ran away from the group. But there is something about Shannon’s issues that just seems like a cry for help. The mother of three had just gone through a bad breakup and is now dealing with the fact that her ex is with a costar. The aura around her seems dark.

Bravo cameras are now focused on catching Shannon acting badly. While she has taken alcohol classes, she hasn’t given up alcohol. And instead of being supported by her once close friend, Tamra is making sure to keep her distance. The once easy-going two-thirds of the Tres Amigas are no longer laughing. As a franchise, we’ve moved into our Tudor years, and heads will be rolling.

Shannon, Tamra, Heather Dubrow, Gina Kirschenheiter, Jennifer Pedranti, Alexis Bellino, and Emily Simpson will appear in Season 18. Now, I’ll be the first to put my hands up and say I used only to believe that a cast inclusive of Vicki Gunvalson was lit. But this season, I am going to be pleasantly surprised. For me, Season 18 is our Renaissance Period where everything and all personalities just flow freely. Each woman in the current cast has made an effort to connect with the viewers and already seems to have a lot of fans on their side.

While I know we will be dealing with many Shannon issues, it will be nice to see most of them rally around her to show support. One thing is for sure: Bravo is not making the same mistake twice by adding a new housewife halfway through the season. They are living by the age-old motto, “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.”

No RHOC spoilers…

It must be a mini miracle because somehow, Bravo has been able to keep any potential spoilers from being leaked. With the sh*tshow that is currently the Real Housewives of New Jersey, it was crucial RHOC be given a fighting chance. Before Season 14 of RHONJ even aired, fans knew there was a divide. But no such thing has happened for the Orange County ladies. Now, viewers can just enjoy each new episode as it comes and not worry about their fun being spoiled in any way. With a strong trailer, there is no doubt that fans are in store for some twists and turns along the way.

Orange County fans are excited

For whatever reason it has felt like an eternity since we had any new episodes of the Real Housewives of Orange County. And quite frankly, followers are excited about it. Some of us have a daily countdown as if it is New Year’s Eve. The network has done a great job at building up the anticipation, which has included some great interviews and updated cast photos.

It also hasn’t gone amiss that this is the 100th season of Real Housewives. It’s huge. It seems fitting that this season of the Real Housewives of Orange County is the 100th in Real Housewives history since they’re the ones who started it all. As Vicki would say, “Let’s whoop it the hell up.”
