Below Deck Mediterranean is back, with its first lady, Captain Sandy Yawn of course. She’s become the face of the Below Deck spinoff, with a rotation of crew members picked by production to cause all kinds of drama.
Last season was a doozy on that front. The trifecta of chief stew Tumi Mhlongo, and her competing interior staff members left its mark on reality TV history. And on Sandy herself apparently, as the Bravolebrity admits being “bummed” about welcoming a whole new crew for Season 9.
Sandy “always wants crew” to return
Captain Sandy exclusively told E! News she was thrilled to have New Zealand native Aesha Scott returning as chief stew. And she was hoping for more repeat crew.
“I always want crew to come back,” Captain Sandy explained. “You spend that time with them, you bond. And then I see what messes they are on TV and I think, ‘I would still take them back,’ because I guarantee you they’re watching themselves and learning what not to do.”
The Season 8 cast is sorely missed. Sandy named Tumi, Kyle Viljoen, and Natalya Scudder as those she was hoping would return. However, perhaps the captain wouldn’t want the toxicity that came with their competing personas.
The Florida resident manages to keep in touch with both Tumi and Kyle.
“I haven’t looked at my messages lately, but I saw Tumi in Vegas [at BravoCon],” Sandy revealed. “Kyle, yes we’ve all stayed in touch. We all have our own lives so we’re all in different states or different countries, so it’s hard to see and stay connected.”
Of course, Below Deck Med viewers can be sure that the new crew will bring their own set of conflicts. Captain Sandy, however, was well-shielded from it all.
“What I like about having department heads is they handle those issues. So I don’t really get that. They’re on their best behavior in front of me,” she stated.
Catch Below Deck Mediterranean Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
