After much speculation it has been confirmed that Golden Bachelor couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist will be getting divorced. After just three months of marriage, the pair have decided to go their separate ways. And while no specific reasons have been given as to why they’ve decided to call time on their attempted happily ever after, Gerry and Theresa did conduct a joint interview to reveal the news.
Gerry said that numerous “heart-to-heart conversations” had led to the agreement that it was time to “dissolve our marriage.” Read on to find out what else they had to say.
Golden Bachelor divorce: The planets weren’t aligned
Juju Chang spoke to the couple, who were “nervous” to drop the “bombshell.”
“We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched The Golden Bachelor,” Theresa started. “And I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope. We want none of that to change for anybody.”
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation and so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Gerry added.
“The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations; it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families. So we look at these situations, and I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.”
Juju asked for more information. She pointed out how the pair had been committed to making it work, despite their distance. So, she wanted to know when everything “fell apart.”
“So that was the plan,” Theresa said. “We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey and we just looked at homes after home, but we never got the point where we made that decision.”
Despite their divorce, Gerry and Theresa claim to still be in love with one another. “I root for her every day,” Gerry said, holding Theresa’s hand.
“Don’t give up,” Theresa said to those who say The Golden Bachelor gave them hope. Sadly, this twist in this particular fairy tale, could harm a lot of that.
Meanwhile, ABC is working on The Golden Bachelorette, set to broadcast later this year.
