Candiace Dillard Bassett Leaving RHOP Isn’t the Worst Thing To Happen

Candiace Dillard joined Real Housewives of Potomac back in Season 3. At first, she was amazing. The former beauty queen delivered smashing confessional after smashing confessional. But somewhere along the way, she overused her triangle square and began running her mouth. She often hit low if she felt attacked by any of the women, and she even found herself in a physical altercation or two. Candiace went from Miss United States to Miss Understood overnight. But after six seasons, the newlywed has decided to hang up her cherry blossoms and move on from the franchise.

Candiace revealed via People, “As I embark on a new chapter after six remarkable years with The Real Housewives of Potomac, I am filled with gratitude for the enriching friendships, personal growth, and moments of introspection that have defined this journey. With a whirlwind of new opportunities and responsibilities on my plate, I have decided to take a break from RHOP.” Honestly, the news couldn’t come a moment sooner especially after the mess that was the season finale.

Candiace hurled insults at Cookie Monster, I mean Deborah, including calling her “The help.” Even though she denied taunting her enemy, cameras caught every word. What came next was a full-out murder brawl on the dance floor. Deborah was livid that Candiace and Wendy Osefo were talking badly about her and wanted to confront them, but after a drink was thrown, there was no hope for peace. Candiace has a way of always making issues with the rest of the women, and honestly, I’m over it.

Out with the old

As they say, in show business, out with the old and in with the new, kind of. Okay, I am going to put it out there, but I would love to see Monique Samuels come back now that Candiace has left the building. During Monique’s first three seasons, she was fun to watch. She had wit and humor and even a talking bird as a sidekick. However, after the physical fight between Candiace and her, she was ultimately fired. Candiace was never really held accountable for taunting her because, let’s face it, words hurt just as much as a punch sometimes. But instead of both women being fired, Candiace was allowed to stay.

However, now that Candiace is walking away, I say bring back Monique and her essential oils! This could be a blessing in disguise and actually help a franchise that had a particularly boring season. Candiace refused to film with half the cast, and when a Bravo star acts like that, it is pretty hard to figure out a decent storyline. However, I think the rest of the women would show grace to Monique and give her a second chance.

Candiace’s lack of maturity really didn’t help win over fans. The singer leaving the Real Housewives of Potomac is a win all around since most of us sped through her segments this past season. Candiace’s departure was way overdue because she didn’t have a genuine relationship with any of the cast and always seemed on the outside acting like she was a bit better than everyone else. It might be harsh, but in my opinion, all Candiace did was cry, say mean things, and then sing her sentences in an annoying voice.

A change is coming

So I think Candiace’s departure really only means one thing: a shake-up is coming. As stated previously, Season 8 was boring with a capital B. This season of the Real Housewives of Potomac didn’t give us any real drama until the last episode. Nneka Ihim and Wendy Osefo’s feud was pointless. Robyn Dixon shared NOTHING about her failing or thriving marriage. And Ashley Darby still hasn’t signed her divorce papers. Candiace could have added to the story if she just filmed with some of her co-stars, but she didn’t.

Now, I know Candiace is leaving to pursue her music career, but I don’t see it happening for her. Everyone has seen she can be somewhat of a liability to work with, so who would want to risk investing in her singing? Either way, I am thrilled she is no longer on the show, and the group, whoever it may be, can move forward without fear of being dragged or drowned in triangle squares.
