With Vanderpump Rules now on Season 11, one post-executive producer has reflected on what more could have been shown to fans. The reflection was brought on by Scheana Shay of all people.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. For about a year now, audiences have been caught up in the drama between Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval in the wake of their cheating scandal. Before Scandoval, VPR viewership was dwindling.
With all the focus on Tom and Ariana these days, it’s almost hard to remember what came before. Production, however, doesn’t forget. And as with any job, there’s a certain level of wanting to rewrite the past.
Pump Rules producer reflects on “radical” storyline
On March 7, Bravo released an interview that Scheana did with Natalie Neurauter, a post-executive producer on Vanderpump Rules. Natalie started out as a story editor, one of the people in charge of taking the footage and compressing it to fit each episode. During the interview, Scheana asked, “Have there been any storylines that you wished you had explored more?”
“I know that the entire world was fascinated by the fact that Ariana and Kristen Doute became friends,” Natalie responded. “That kind of snuck up on us. It just felt like, suddenly, it had happened. That’s a hard hurdle to get over in a friendship – sharing an ex. Especially one that has hurt one of you so badly at the time.”
Longtime VPR fans will remember when Tom admitted to cheating on Kristen with Ariana back in Season 2. When Ariana looked to Kirsten for support after Scandoval, she pointed out the irony. To that point, Natalie admitted that the situation was presently “way more understandable. But at the time, it felt radical.”
