For those Real Housewives fans still wondering which high-profile film projects Kenya Moore has been a part of, look no further. The former Miss USA will star in Lifetime’s upcoming feature film, Abducted Off the Streets: The Carlesha Gaither Story, premiering February 10.
The movie, based on a true story, follows a mother searching tirelessly for her daughter, who was abducted off the street in Philadelphia. Kenya, who shares one daughter with her ex-husband, Marc Daly, spoke to Page Six about how her thoughts regarding safety changed after working on this project.
“It was scary, I’m not gonna lie. It was scary because it’s one of your worst fears. So you don’t want to have to come to the realization that this could possibly happen one day,” she said. “But I think that when I looked at the greater good in the fact that there is so much in this film that could save lives in terms of teaching you how to be situationally aware of things, [and] … how to stay alive.”
Kenya takes personal security very seriously…
For Kenya, who grew up in Detroit with her grandmother, she “learned early on” about being mindful of her surroundings. After an incident several years ago where strangers showed up at her front door, the reality star began sharing about the safeguards she has in place to keep her family safe.
“I have had security experts come to my house and assess my house,” she revealed. “I carry a gun [because] several years ago, you probably saw me brandishing my gun at some people. They knocked at my door, and I’m like, ‘No, I don’t play that. You don’t understand. I don’t know why you are trespassing. If you are knocking at my front door, you are going to be met by my little friend — and my little friend is not little.’”
Kenya isn’t the only Real Housewives star who’s faced unwanted visitors. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Kyle Richards and Dorit Kemsley also experienced burglaries during filming. These resulted in the loss of jewelry and expensive clothing items.
“You never see me being flashy about jewelry,” Kenya said. “I recycle clothes [and] may have one expensive car, but they can take a car. I don’t care about material things,” she added before sharing, “The most expensive thing in my house is my refrigerator. That appliance package is off the chain in my house! I’d like to see you break in and steal a big-ass refrigerator.”
Although joking above, filming her new movie has taught Kenya “to be more cognizant … especially having a child.”
