Hannah Ferrier may have been fired from Below Deck Mediterranean in 2020, but people are still interested to know about the seismic event four years later. And the Australian native is spilling new details about her relationship with Captain Sandy Yawn that explains their frosty interactions over the years.
The former Bravolebrity has a lot to point out about the series since she left. That includes the fact that not one chief stew has returned for a second season since her firing. That’s uncharacteristic of the other spinoffs, though perhaps Tumi Mhlongo will break that streak. But until then, Hannah is still the reigning chief stew queen of the show. And as such, fans are still interested to hear the behind the scenes drama that she has started to spill.
Hannah said the drama started, “since Season 1”
During the January 24 episode of the Salty With Captain Lee podcast, Hannah shared new details. She claimed that the extent of Below Deck Med drama between herself and Captain Sandy was never revealed.
“I feel like a lot of people thought [the drama leading up to my exit] happened in Season 5, but it had been building for a really long time. Since season 1,” Hannah told Captain Lee Rosbach.
The late Captain Mark Howard manned the healm during the premiere season. Sandy joined in the second season, and Hannah suspects that she had her opinion about her from the get go.
In 2022, Hannah spoke on the Kyle & Jackie O Show about the relationship. She suggested that good editing presented their working life as being better than it was.
“We weren’t friendly at all,” she said. “It was every season sitting down with production going, ‘How can we get these two working together where it’s an environment where they can [coexist]?’”
“I think it was, like, about 45 seconds from our first introduction, they had to stop production and be like, ‘Sandy, you can’t talk to her like that.’ Like, straight off the bat,” Hannah claimed.
That’s an important missing piece of the puzzle. If Hannah and Sandy had so many more problems than was shared on camera, the ongoing bad blood between them and their public comments about each other makes more sense.
Below Deck Season 11 premieres Monday, February 5 at 9/8c on Bravo.
