Can Joey’s Bachelor Season Top the Golden Bachelor?

The Bachelor Season 28 is finally here, and we are hyped to see Joey Graziadei as the leading man. Joey met an astonishing 32 women on night one and ended up cutting 10 of them during the first rose ceremony. This is a Bachelor Nation record, and fans are curious to see how the rest of Joey’s love story will unfold.

On the other hand, the historic first season of The Golden Bachelor recently wrapped up as well. Gerry Turner made history as the first lead of the show and successfully found love with his now-wife, Theresa Nist. The Golden Bachelor was a huge hit, and Bachelor Nation viewers of all ages enjoyed watching seniors try to find love again.

The question now is whether Joey’s season has the potential to live up to The Golden Bachelor. Joey has big shoes to fill, and it seems unlikely that his season will be as big of a hit as Gerry’s.

The Golden Bachelor Was 10/10

There, I said it. There really was nothing wrong with The Golden Bachelor, unless you count Gerry’s constant tears. After years of watching immature young singles try to find love, it was refreshing to watch the golden folks on their journey instead. The women were certainly more mature, but also funny and seemed to really care for one another. There was a sense of loyalty and friendship among the cast that the original Bachelor shows just lacks.

The best part about The Golden Bachelor was The Golden Wedding, as Gerry and Theresa decided to get married right away. This was huge, as the success rate for Bachelor shows these days is close to zero. While there are some couples that have stayed engaged, it is rare to see a Bachelor Nation wedding so soon.

The Last Few Bachelor Seasons Have Fell Short

While Bachelor Nation fans were thrilled to hear that Joey would be the next Bachelor, he could still face some challenges. The last few seasons of The Bachelor have fallen incredibly short, with the last two being particularly bad.

Clayton Echard led The Bachelor Season 26, which was just bad from the start. Clayton was an odd choice for the lead, considering he did not have much screen time on The Bachelorette. When he reached fantasy suites, Clayton dropped the ball by revealing to Rachel Recchia and Gabby Windey that he slept with both of them at the rose ceremony. Clayton later left the show with winner Susie Evans, although their relationship did not last.

While The Bachelor Season 27 lead Zach Shallcross did successfully get engaged, his season was not much better. Zach’s personality was extremely dull, and the women carried the show. Even then, there weren’t many standout contestants, and the lack of drama made Zach’s season pretty boring to watch.

Joey Might Have A Hard Time Breaking The Chain

Don’t get me wrong, I love Joey. He was one of the more charming contestants on The Bachelorette Season 19, and seemed to genuinely fall for Charity Lawson. However, during the premiere of his own season, Joey just seemed a little off. It could have been nerves, but Joey did not express much personality with the majority of the women. The ladies carried most of the conversations, which gave me bad flashbacks to Zach’s season.

As usual, Bachelor Nation has promised Joey’s season to be one like we have never seen before. This is a big promise and one that has often fallen short in the past. In order to be as successful as The Golden Bachelor, Joey’s season would have to stand out in a pretty significant way.

Only A Few Of Joey’s Women Stood Out

Maybe it’s just me, but it was hard to find someone to really root for on night one. Daisy Kent was one of the only standout contestants who formed an instant connection with Joey. Daisy opened up about her journey with hearing loss and cochlear implants and seemed to be one of the nicest women in the mansion.

Allison Hollinger and her oldest sister Lauren Hollinger also stood out, as they made Bachelor Nation history as the first pair of (non-twin) sisters on the show. Joey was initially taken aback, but had good conversations with both of them. Apart from these three, the rest of the women just kind of blended in. Of course it is only night one, but for the time being this group of women seems pretty boring overall.

Based on all of this, I’m not confident that Joey’s season will be able to top The Golden Bachelor. We hope that we are proven wrong, however, as Joey really deserves to find the love of his life this season!
