Dr. Terry Dubrow Slams Jillian Michaels’ Anti-Ozempic Claims, She Hits Back

Dr. Terry Dubrow is using his platform to become an Ozempic spokesperson. The “miracle weight loss drug,” as he himself called it, is used in Hollywood to lose the last bit of stubborn pounds.

However, the Semiglutide was made for diabetes sufferers and the morbidly obese. Its widespread use for frivolous weight loss is cause for controversy, especially given the potential for uncomfortable side effects.

Terry tried Ozempic briefly but decided to quit. The plastic surgeon wanted to learn more about the drug since a significant percentage of his patients use it. And his endorsement of Ozempic includes correcting those that call its use dangerous and unnecessary.

Most recently, the Botched star publicly sparred with fitness expert and certified nutritionist, Jillian Michaels.

“As a board-certified physician and a certified expert for the California medical board, I’m not here to debate scientific and medical issues with a personal trainer,” Terry told TMZ.

“What Jillian has said is that there is going to be A: a massive fallout with the long-term use of Ozempic, people are going to get used to it like they get used to coffee, and [B:] the side-effects are so bad you shouldn’t even try it,” Terry explained.

Prior to Terry’s comments, Jillian told People that several in her inner circle stopped taking the “dangerous” prescription. She said side effects of the drug left her family members feeling “like sh*t.”

“Once they get off of the drug, it does the rebound effect,” she told the news publication. “So you’re not gaining anything. You get off the drug in a year and go all the way back. You’ve not learned anything. You’ve not built any physical strength or endurance. You haven’t learned how to eat healthy.”

The one thing the duo can agree on is that “diet and exercise” is “critical” to overall health and wellness.

Terry says “to ignore or belittle these incredible, miracle weight loss drugs is sending the wrong message. Do not listen to her, ladies and gentlemen!”

“If you are obese, you are at risk for major causes of mortality,” he said of the market these drugs were made for. “Anything you can do to lower your body fat, including diet and exercise, that’s safe — and these drugs, again, have been around for a decade, they are safe.”

Jillian took to Instagram Stories to respond mere hours after The Real Housewives of Orange County star’s comments were published.

She referred to an interview from July 2023. There, Terry stated the Ozempic has the potential to “slow down your intestines and predispose you to intestinal obstruction.”

“@DrDubrow a year ago you were cited in @nypost article on Ozempic possibly COSTING YOU YOUR LIFE,” she captioned the screenshot. “Why the sudden about face as an Ozempic poster child.”

“I don’t deal in opinions,” she added. “Unfortunately for you, trainers can read the side effects, the studies, the articles AND THEN seek extra guidance from all the doctors on my podcast.”

Jillian’s post included information from the official Ozempic website listing all the potential side effects.

The issue really seems to be overuse of the prescription. As with any drug, the risks and benefits must be weighed by each patient.

Botched airs Thursdays at 10/9c on E!.
