Remember the $750k diamond earrings of Erika Jayne’s that were a source of much controversy? Back in January 2022 a judge determined Erika must forfeit the jewels because they were allegedly purchased with Tom Girardi’s dirty money.
The earrings were one of many lawsuits after Big Tommy and EJ were sued for embezzling settlement funds from a horrible plane crash. Now Erika has scored a win in the case but much to her shock, her castmates weren’t that impressed. She shared her thoughts on the most recent episode of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Is Humility > Empathy?
We all know Erika is on a personal journey to better understand empathy. But does she need a little help with humility as well? On the cast trip to Barcelona, the Puss Patter relayed some good news to the ladies but didn’t get the reactions she wanted. I mean, the widows and orphans didn’t get what they wanted either, but here we go.
For context, Erika put up quite a battle over this jewelry. She pretty much died on a hill instead of graciously turning them in to supplement Tom’s massive debt and help out the widows and orphans.
So EJ read an email from her lawyers over breakfast. She said, ”I would just like to share some happy news I got in the morning and I think it’s important. Attached are the two decisions by the district court on our appeal regarding the earrings. The district court reverses the bankruptcy court’s turnover order.”
Erika explained the court ordered the trustee on the case to provide evidence the “money used to pay for the earrings was actual client trust fund money.” In a confessional moment she added, “In other words, you can’t prove that the money used to buy my earrings was client money. You can’t do that so they shouldn’t have been taken in the first place.” Translation: these earrings have a serious chokehold on EJ.
The responses were giving, “meh”
Garcelle Beauvais was nonplussed. “I wish she would just let the earrings go and give something back to the victims so that you can sleep at night, so you feel like, you know, even though you’re not guilty, you’re giving back to the victims. You need good karma!” I have a feeling she sleeps pretty well at night, Garcelle.
After being the subject of criticism from some of her co-stars last season, Erika now feels somewhat victorious. “What I said was going to happen is happening. [I said], ‘This is a long fight. Let it work through the legal system, please do not rush to judgement.’”
The battle of the baubles continues and Erika does not have them back as of yet. Court cases are ongoing.
