The Monica Garcia and Reality Von Tease saga is turning into a huge case of he said, she said. Did she tell production during her casting interviews that she was a part of the troll account, or did she sit on that secret until the last minute?
On the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 4 reunion, Monica claimed she told producers about the account. Andy Cohen shot that down and said they wouldn’t have cast her if that were the case. Now, in a rare win for Monica, an NBCUniversal executive says there could be some truth to what Monica said on the reunion couch.
The plot thickens
The bigwigs at NBCUniversal have been going around and doing interviews about this season’s RHOSLC, especially as Monica’s involvement in the show has caused fans to question the integrity of the casting process. When chatting about the season, an executive named Noah Samton admitted Monica may have mentioned Reality Von Tease in one of her many casting interviews.
“In terms of Monica talking to a producer about it at some point during casting, I don’t know, there’s [various] producers, casting producers that somebody might meet [during the process],” said Noah, via @byewighellodrama on Instagram. “Maybe there was a conversation that was never relayed to anybody. I don’t honestly know what that story was.”
So, if Monica mentioned the troll account to a producer at some point during the interview process, why did Bravo not dig into that? According to Noah, it’s a little bit harder than it sounds. He spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the situation and defended their processes.
“We do extensive background checking on cast, but a fake profile troll account wouldn’t come up,” Noah shared. “There’s no record of that account through her name.”
Maybe they didn’t think to check one of Monica’s handful of alternate names? Either way, the fact that Reality Von Tease slipped through the cracks caused this to be an unforgettable season. That’s something we can all agree on.
Noah said, “So yeah, there are things that can slip through and do, and it’s certainly not something we love when we have a surprise like that. It turned out well, I guess, creatively for the end of the season.”
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 4 is available to stream on Peacock.
