Why Dr. Terry Dubrow Quit ‘Miracle’ Drug Ozempic

Dr. Terry Dubrow has recently opened up about hopping on the Ozempic train… and hopping right back off.

The Real Housewives of Orange County and Botched star isn’t the first Bravoleb to get on the Ozempy wave. His Orange County co-star Emily Simpson opened up about using the type 2 diabetic drug — which impacts satiety — in 2023, saying it’s been a valuable tool in her fitness journey.

One of the downsides of Ozempic’s rise in popularity is its shortage in supply. With that comes the shaming. Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Danielle Cabral slammed people for using it, saying they should “run on a treadmill” to lose weight. Dr. Dubrow commented on the public shaming in August 2023, urging people to educate themselves about the drug. During an interview with Page Six, Terry detailed his recent experience on Ozempic — calling it a “miracle.”

Even though there’s been much negative discourse surrounding Ozempic, also known as Wegovy, Terry sang high praises for weight-loss medication.

“I’ve tried it. I thought it was amazing,” he said. “I didn’t have that much weight to lose. But I wanted to try it because so many of my patients were on it, and I wanted to see what it was like when you’re not diabetic and you only have 10-15 pounds to lose.”

“I think it’s a miracle,” he added. “The biggest breakthrough in medical history.” However, the reality star admitted he stopped taking the drug because he missed the “joy of eating.”

“I thought, ‘You know what, I kind of want to get my appetite back. The holidays are coming, I want to enjoy myself,’” Terry explained. “You can’t drink on it,” he said. “You’ve got to be really careful with alcohol because people are being put in the hospital with pancreatitis.”

As a final message, Terry warned users who want to try Ozempic, saying they have to combine the drug with lifestyle changes, including exercise and diet.

“For patients who want to try [Ozempic], you have to realize your skin is going to loosen up a lot faster,” he explained. “You are going to lose lean muscle mass. You have to increase your protein; you have to work out.”
