After an intense showdown during the latest episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, cast member Garcelle Beauvais called out Dorit Kemsley for her “unconscious Karen behavior.” The pair, who have feuded with each other for the last two seasons, had an explosive argument while at co-star Crystal Kung Minkoff’s house earlier in the season. During the conversation, Dorit said she felt Garcelle was “attacking” her — a word that could have a racist connotation when used about Black women and people of color.
Immediately after, Garcelle confronted her co-star about her word choice and seemingly drew a line in the sand. “The word ‘attack’ just hit me in the wrong place,” Garcelle said during the episode. “There’s certain words, when you point them at me, it has a completely different impact. You have to know who you’re dealing with.”
Garcelle continued, “There are three words you don’t say to Black women: You don’t say ‘aggressive,’ you don’t say ‘attack,’ and you don’t say ‘angry,’ because that’s labeling us.”
Dorit is NOT happy with Garcelle’s “Karen” label
When Dorit and Garcelle finally had their own moment, they wasted no time letting each other know how they felt.
“There’s a pattern with you that I don’t know whether you’re aware of or not, but I’m just going to be completely blunt,” Garcelle told Dorit. “I feel like two years ago, we were talking about people of color. Has there been growth since the last time you were like, people of color have worked for you?”
After hearing Garcelle’s comment about her being a “Karen,” Dorit said she was hurt because “that accusation holds a lot of implications.”
“[This is a] very, very serious, dangerous accusation … [and] I’m not feeling comfortable with this at all.”
Whew. Dorit — your victimhood mentality is exhausting.
