Tom Schwartz’s interest in Katie Flood was an endearing aspect of Winter House Season 3. The yachtie knew nothing of Scandoval and was charmed by Schwartz’s alleged vulnerability.
For his part, Schwartz was dealing with a wave of public hatred at the time of filming with Katie for his role in covering Tom Sandoval’s affair with Rachel Leviss. He was also still unsettled from his divorce from Katie Maloney after 12 years together.
So arguably, Tom just wasn’t ready to get serious with anyone. But moving on with a woman who shared a name with his ex-wife seems even less likely. Was he using the name thing as an excuse? Who knows, but Schwartz had a right to his feelings. Some though, including his ex-wife, seem to be using it as a point of ridicule.
Katie points out that Tom most often called her “bubba”
Katie appeared on the December 12 episode of Off the Vine podcast to react to Tom and the Below Deck Mediterranean alum’s romance.
“He had a problem just, like, having a thing with her. It was just so bizarre,” Katie reacted.
After briefly leaving the house to film the Vanderpump Rules reunion in March 2023, Schwartz returned during the latest Winter House episode. Much to his crush’s delight.
But Schwartz’s ex-wife is confused about him being hung up on the name since he never called her Katie while they were together. The former couple instead opted for “bub” and “bubba.” In fact, Katie revealed that they still use the former pet names as a force of habit.
“He never called me Katie and I never called him Tom,” she explained.
“For a while, I told him, I’m like, ‘You can’t do that,’ because it just felt like it was something too synonymous with our whole relationship,” the Something About Her co-owner continued. “But I think it’s just too much of a habit for him to not. Like it’s just it’s a reflex almost.”
More than anything, the Pump Rules star enjoyed busting Schwartz’s chops on the entire situation. A “roasting,” just like the Winter House crew had on their latest episode.
“We like to roast each other a little bit, you know? And so I did give him a little sh-t about the name thing,” Katie joked. “I was like, ‘Well, I’m Katie number one,’ because there was a joke about Tom number one and Tom number two. I’m like, ‘Well, does this mean that there’s a Katie number one and a Katie number two now?’ I joked about that but I was never like, ‘How dare you.'”
In real-time, Schwartz and his Winter House fling remained friends and are on good terms.
