RHOSLC’s Monica Garcia Responds to Claims She ‘Fabricated Entire Family History’

Real Housewives of Salt Lake City newbie Monica Garcia talks a lot about her family roots in Bermuda. Her mother’s side of the family is from there, and her grandmother was born there. She has a lot of family who still call the Caribbean island home.

On the December 12 episode of RHOSLC, the women flew to Bermuda for a getaway and to celebrate Monica’s birthday. As part of their trip, Monica was looking forward to visiting her Bermudan family. She hadn’t seen them in 30 years and wanted to get reacquainted, hear stories about her grandmother, and just reconnect with her roots.

But at the last minute, she received a text from her family telling her they no longer wanted to see her. The mother of four was shattered and blamed her mom Linda’s belligerent meddling. Now viewers of the show are accusing the divorced mom of “fabricating” her family history and faking the whole incident for “sympathy.”

Haters gonna hate

Monica’s been something of a controversial character since she first showed up on RHOSLC. She’s messy, a bit tasteless, and more than a little rough around the edges. I think she has a good heart, though, somewhere in all that mess. She seems to be a great mom to her four girls and is struggling to find her footing following her divorce from their dad. She also has a volatile relationship with her mom, who definitely has her own issues.

The morning after the episode aired, Monica shared a post by @bravochatroom on her Instagram. “I think Monica had no plans to even see her family and lied about the whole thing for viewer sympathy,” the poster said. “I believe nothing that comes out of her mouth.” Ouch. Pretty harsh words.

“Wow,” Monica responded. “Waking up to the entire internet thinking I fabricated an entire family history is W I L D … I’m flattered that you think I’m such a good actress and that I’d be able to get away with something like that airing on national television.”

The Brea Baby founder also added a statement about haters on her Insta. “When a person doesn’t like you,” she said, “they team up with another person that doesn’t like you. And before you know it, there’s a whole slew of people that hate you. But here’s the thing: those people … don’t even like each other. They’re only gathered because of you. See how powerful you are?”

Whether you like her or hate her, Monica’s certainly turned out to be a breakout star of RHOSLC Season 4.

Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
