Toya Bush-Harris Says Sons ‘Taught Us Some Things’ During ‘The Talk’ on Married to Medicine

It’s a moment every parent dreads having “the talk” with their children. In the latest episode of Married to Medicine, that’s what Toya Bush-Harris and her husband, Dr. Eugene Harris, had to do with their sons Ashton and Avery.

Toya shared with The Daily Dish how they knew it was the right time to discuss the birds and the bees and how the conversation went down.

Time for the talk

According to Toya, the idea of the talk came up when the family was watching a movie together. “I’m one of those individuals who will throw a question about there, just like bait,” she shared. “Boom. See who bites.”

When her boys started showing that they may know about more than they should, Toya and her husband determined that it was time to talk to them about sex, both to teach them and to see just how much they already knew.

“The conversation went really well,” Toya admitted. “They taught us some things, too,” she added. “They honestly had good questions, and they were listening.”

While the conversation could have been awkward, it wasn’t. Toya explained that she is a mom who is open to answering questions without making her kids uncomfortable.

“I think that’s what you want, I think, growing up, to be able to talk to your parents openly about your feelings,” Toya said. “We didn’t have that growing up.”

According to Toya, the best part – which wasn’t shown in the episode – was that her husband even pulled out the laptop and had a full presentation for the discussion. “He’s a visual learner,” she admitted with a laugh.

In a good place

The new season is well underway, and birds and bees aside, Toya and her family are in a good place. “My sons are happy,” Toya shared. “They are loving school and their friends, and they’re loving their parents being on TV.”

However, she admitted that as the boys are older, they are starting to ask more questions about what she says on the show. “I’m like, okay, do I need to censor myself now?” she joked.
