The Real Housewives franchise has been entertaining viewers for 17 years, and in that time, viewers have seen a lot of crazy storylines. While some seasons have jaw-dropping drama, others left us saying, “Are they really arguing about this?” Here are the most ridiculous Real Housewives storylines.
Dorinda and Bethenny Nutcracker Drama (RHONY)
Who knew a Nutcracker could cause so much drama? In Real Housewives of New York Season 10, Dorinda Medley went above and beyond for her friend Bethenny Frankel when she arranged to have a one-of-a-kind Nutcracker delivered to her home. Bethenny wanted to buy the item as a holiday gift for her daughter but had trouble securing the rare decoration. Dorinda used her resources to find the Nutcracker and gifted it to Bethenny. While Bethenny was over the moon to see the Nutcracker show up in her apartment, she didn’t directly thank Dorinda. Instead, she profusely thanked the man who delivered the item and barely acknowledged that Dorinda had anything to do with it.
Bethenny’s lack of graciousness caused a whole lot of drama and it was pretty funny to see the women so worked up over a holiday decoration. There have been some outrageous RHONY storylines throughout the years but we think this has to be the silliest.
“You Smell Like Hospital” (RHOSLC)
In Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 1, Mary Cosby told Jen Shah she “smelled like hospital” and it became a central part of the season, which is crazy. While Mary’s comment was undoubtedly rude, Jen’s response to the comment felt extreme. Jen could not get over it and therefore, it became a hot-button issue in the first season. We loved seeing the women debate Mary’s intentions as fans tried to decipher what it means to “smell like hospital.”
Puppygate (RHOBH)
Can you believe an entire season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills centered around A DOG? We can’t either! The Season 9 Lucy Lucy Apple Juice drama, also known as “Puppygate,” has to be one of the most outrageous Real Housewives storylines of all time.
The drama began after Dorit Kemsley adopted a dog, Lucy Lucy Apple Juice, from Lisa Vanderpump‘s dog rescue Vanderpump Dogs. Dorit ended up giving the dog away, claiming the pup bit her kids and her husband. Dorit thought the chihuahua mix was going to a loving home but it actually ended up in a shelter. Vanderpump Dogs was alerted about the dog’s whereabouts and thus began a season of puppy drama.
Meredith & Whitney Bathtub Drama (RHOSLC)
The Season 4 Real Housewives of Salt Lake City bathtub drama might take the cake for the silliest Real Housewives storyline.
In the Season 4 premiere of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Meredith Marks revealed she was upset with Whitney Rose because of a comment she made in an interview with The New York Post.
Prior to filming, Whitney was asked how she felt about Meredith taking baths with her husband, Seth Marks. Whitney confessed she didn’t love the idea, telling the outlet, “Personally, it creeps me out to get into a bubble bath with someone else.”
Well, Meredith did not like that. She confronted Whitney about her comments, which seemed to catch Whitney off-guard. The beauty founder insisted she was just joking about the whole thing but Meredith wasn’t buying it. The argument resulted in Meredith uttering one of the greatest lines in Real Housewives history, “It was a dig on my marriage and a dig on my bathtub.” Iconic.
Sonja’s Dog Funeral (RHONY)
Sonja Morgan has had countless over-the-top moments in her Bravo career but we think the funeral she threw for her dog takes the cake. In Season 6, Sonja invited her loved ones to mourn the death of her beloved dog Millou before dumping his ashes into the river.
Sonja delivered an impassioned speech about her love for her dog, telling funeral-goers, “He was the best thing that ever happened before my daughter.” This Real Housewives storyline has to be one of the wildest things we’ve seen on the show.
Munchausen Syndrome Rumors (RHOBH)
Lisa Rinna accusing Yolanda Hadid of having Munchausen syndrome might be the only RHOBH storyline more ridiculous than Puppygate. It felt like a desperate attempt to create more drama on the show and the whole storyline didn’t make much sense. Not your best moment, Rinna.
