Words can cut like knives, as the Sister Wives patriarch is finding out. Even though Kody Brown often lived in an alternate reality where he was revered like a king, the truth is not many of his family members can stomach him. For over ten years, TLC fans have watched Kody push away Meri Brown, Christine Brown, Janelle Brown, and Robyn Brown, but no one ever thought he would turn into such a coward when it came to his 18 children.
There has been absolutely no love lost between his older kids, with Kody often giving them the silent treatment when they did not agree with his rules. The most recent season has shown Kody ignoring his sons and daughter, not wishing them a Merry Christmas, and drawing a line in the sand, claiming they need to apologize to Robyn. However, the kids are hitting back, and their words are not kind.
Gwen Brown
Without a doubt, the daughter of Christine and Kody has been the most outspoken and critical of her father. Gwen Brown wasn’t having any of it as she recapped Season 17, making sure to call out her lackluster father. Gwen has touched on how she wished Kody could have been an “active father” for her, called him useless, and shared that he preferred his sons to his daughters.
The 21-year-old graphic designer shared that Kody particularly had a close relationship with Gabe Brown, which bothered her because she was only four days younger than him, yet their father wanted nothing to do with her. Perhaps the worst thing Gwen has accused Kody of is considering his spouses as trophies, especially Christine because she had royal Mormon blood. Gwen has no plans on pipping down and is more than ready to blast her father whenever he needs a reality check.
Gabe Brown
Nothing broke Sister Wives’ hearts more than Gabe Brown crying in his confessional about how his father forgot his birthday. Since 2020, Gabe and Kody have butted heads over the patriarch’s COVID-19 rules. Gabe evidently broke a few rules, which included hanging out with his girlfriend. The arguments seem petty and show that Kody is stubborn as an ox.
Gabe revealed that on his 21st birthday, Kody did call, but instead of wishing him well, Kody asked Gabe what it was like having COVID-19 since he had just come down with it. Gabe chose not to remind his father of his special day, hoping he would remember, but he didn’t. And that was the last time Gabe spoke to his father.
Paedon Brown
Paedon Brown has always been a bit of an odd duck, but he, too, jumped on the bandwagon when it came to talking crap about his father. During one TikTok video in September of 2022, Paedon jabbed at his father, telling fans, “Any man of the house that has to say, ‘I’m the man of the house,’ is no true man of the house.”
Paedon has made other comments, too, and in December of 2022, he responded to a fan’s hypothetical question, “Would you fight your dad if he slept with your girlfriend?” Paedon joked, saying, “That would be a pristine match-up. My dad Kody, and my ex? Good luck to you both.”
While speaking on Reality Life with Kate Casey, Paedon agreed with his siblings, who have said Kody often has favorites. “He mainly tried to focus on the younger kids,” Paedon claimed. Paedon also noted that Kody once tried to have TLC contractually enforce a rule that would prevent the family from speaking negatively outside of the series.
Ysabel Brown
As one of the sweetest of Kody’s children, Ysabel Brown has been put through the wringer when it comes to her father. After he chose to skip her back surgery in favor of staying home with Robyn’s children, it was curtains for their father-daughter relationship.
During her confessional, Ysabel shared, “I think his priorities are a little screwed up. And l don’t want to disrespect him because he is my dad and I understand, I do. I do understand why he’s doing it; it’s just really frustrating and really, really hard.”
Garrison Brown
During Season 18, Garrison Brown has been very loud when it comes to criticizing his father. While speaking with his mother and siblings, Garrison made a comment saying, “You know what, Robyn? Have him. We’re all grown adults who don’t need a father figure anymore.”
It didn’t help that Garrison also felt he was being gaslit by Robyn over a family gift exchange, either.
