For whatever reason, Cheryl Burke has not been on the best terms with Dancing with the Stars as of late. Cheryl left the show on her own terms in November 2022, having performed for 26 seasons. But since then, things have felt tense.
Of course, Cheryl hasn’t shied away from criticizing the show, especially since she left. For one thing, she was quick to call out DWTS for its plan to air while the writers’ strike was still in effect. She also revealed she was fat-shamed by one of the show’s pros. On their face, those seem like fair criticisms to make.
In theory, they wouldn’t be enough to hold a grudge over. But perhaps Disney could hold a grudge over anything. ABC manifested some apparent contempt for Cheryl by not inviting her to the tribute to Len Goodman. Now, Cheryl’s revealed the vitriol extends to at least one of the show’s pros.
Cheryl maintains “I’m not disparaging” DWTS
On the October 16 episode of her podcast, Cheryl spoke with Tom Bergeron about their time on the show. During their chat, Tom expressed his frustration that Cheryl received criticism for starting the podcast. He said, “It really pissed me off that you’re getting some heat for this … It’s just like … get a life. Relax. If you don’t like it, don’t listen. Don’t watch. Move on.”
Cheryl responded, “How about this? A pro dancer came at me.” However, she wouldn’t reveal the pro’s identity. Tom expressed surprise. Cheryl continued, “The people who are coming at me are obviously assuming that this is me bad-mouthing the show. I’m not disparaging [DWTS].”
Indeed, Cheryl has been all too clear about how grateful she is for Dancing with the Stars. Ever since she left the show, she’s expressed sadness over how hard it was to go. Even though she’s been critical of DWTS and some of its dancers, Cheryl has repeated multiple times that she holds no ill will. Still, the criticism toward Cheryl will undoubtedly persist.
