Did Brooke Burke want a “love affair” with Derek Hough on DWTS? Recently, Brooke Burke appeared on Cheryl Burke’s podcast to discuss her time on Dancing with the Stars, both as a contestant and a host. But during her interview, she made some unexpected comments about Derek Hough.
Brooke expressed that, if she hadn’t had a partner during Season 7, she would’ve hoped for a “love affair” between her and Derek. In 2008, Brooke famously won DWTS alongside Derek. But the talent on the ballroom floor translated into other feelings as well.
However, Brooke has recently sought to give more context to those comments. Perhaps she realized their inappropriate nature, especially with Derek now being a married man. But whatever the reason, she’s spoken out once again about her thoughts on the “love affair.”

Brooke recently spoke with E!, attempting to give more nuance to her previous statements. “There’s a big difference between sensual connection and a sexual connection. For me, our time in the ballroom, there was so much chemistry. It was romantic, it was challenge, it was struggle, it was triumph, it was fear. It was all these things that a couple goes through.”
She continued, “You’re learning how to find your rhythm together as a couple. So, for me, that was very intimate and at times, very romantic, especially during performances like the Rumba and just the romance of storytelling through our bodies. That’s what I meant.”
The former host also clarified what her then-boyfriend, now ex-husband David Charvet felt at the time. “David went to every show and sometimes to rehearsals and he loved the artistry of dance and he understood it. He understood the rhythm and to compliment him, he also [felt] the need for that intimate relationship and he was super supportive.”
