The weight-loss wonder du jour is back. Tongues are wagging about this supposed miracle drug. It’s a semaglutide that functions as a weight loss medicine. Initially created for obese individuals whose health depends on losing weight, it’s now a trendy quick fix for Real Housewives, Bravolebrities, and the entertainment industry.
Some swear by it. Others shun it. Teddi Mellencamp, for one, is not judging Ozempic users. Page Six reported that the fitness guru attended an event at the West Hollywood Fleur Room earlier this week. “I’m not here to really judge whatever it is that somebody’s doctor recommends for them,” Teddi said while at the National Alliance on Mental Illness gala.
For some, weight loss and mental health go hand in hand. It seems the topic of physical health came up at the event. And the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has made a fortune from being an accountability coach. She founded All In By Teddi.
Teddi stated, “I know, for me, the most important thing for my mental health is moving my body daily, eating foods that fuel me and make me feel good. And if [Ozempic is] going to make somebody feel good, to each his own,”
Shah’s of Sunset star Golnesa “GG” Garachedaghi and Real Housewives of New Jersey star Dolores Catania have confirmed their use of that drug. While Dolores takes the medication for medical reasons, GG’s motivation was weight loss. Last month, she gushed about losing 11 pounds from taking Ozempic.
However, Dolores‘ co-star Jackie Goldschneider is not a fan. The mother of four authored the book Weight of Beautiful and struggled with an eating disorder for most of her adult life. “It gets me so fired up. I’m horrified by it,” Jackie said while on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast in February 2023.
Teddi seems less concerned about Ozempic fueling eating disorders. She even joked that the topic comes up so often on the podcast she created with Real Housewives of Orange County star Tamra Judge that the drug “should be a sponsor of the damn podcast.”
She is concerned about weight loss authenticity though. And why stars that drop weight are by default assumed to be taking Ozempic. Teddi said she doesn’t “like the speculation.”
“I don’t even like the speculation, also, that if somebody’s working hard, ‘Oh, that must mean this.’ Or if somebody isn’t and that’s what their doctor recommends for them, who am I to judge?” Teddi added.
Her bestie, Kyle Richards, was one such celebrity that had to defend herself after social media posts showed off her noticeably more toned body. The RHOBH star credited her weight loss to diet, cutting out alcohol, and working out at the gym. She has repeatedly denied taking Ozempic.
“We’ve always worked out together,” Teddi said of her friendship with Kyle. “But I’m a huge supporter of Kyle no matter what she’s doing and we love to push each other and have fun and work out and that’s always been one of our connecting things.”
One connection the pair have is the party they were attending. Kyle hosted the event to raise awareness for mental health. Sadly, her best friend Lorene Shea took her life in May 2022 after losing her battle with mental illness.
“I wanted to honor her and bring everyone together here tonight and raise awareness and funds because I really want people to know that there is help out there,” Kyle said of the event.
As the party was filmed for Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the entire cast was present. Garcelle Beauvais, Sutton Stracke, Crystal Kung Minkoff, and Dorit Kemsley. Kyle’s sister Kim Richards was also present, along with RHOBH alum Camille Grammer.
Kyle was accompanied by all four of her daughters as well as her husband Mauricio Umansky. Alexia Umansky, Sophia Umansky, and Portia Umanksy were in attendance as well as Farrah Brittany, daughter to Kyle and her ex-husband Guraish Aldjufrie.
