For her fourteenth season tagline, Kandi Burruss nails it. “I ain’t never skipped a beat or a bag.” And the longtime Real Housewives of Atlanta star has certainly gotten a lot of “bags” from Bravo.
So I can’t really blame her for wanting nothing to do with the recent lawsuit that former costar NeNe Leakes filed against the network. NeNe is accusing Bravo, Andy Cohen, and the production companies associated with RHOA of racism. As reported by Page Six, when asked about it, Kandi stated, “I don’t think anything [of it].” She added, “I don’t have anything to say about it. Never! Absolutely have no opinion.” If Kandi does have anything to say about it, she certainly won’t be sharing.
Kandi’s relationship with Bravo seems to be just fine. Unlike her relationship with NeNe, despite the two having been on the show together for years. Kandi even accused NeNe herself of calling her a racial slur. Back in March, Kandi revealed, “I don’t know what her problem is with me. I’ve seen her say all kinds of stuff.” She explained, “This right here pissed me the f–k off. When she said somewhere calling me a ‘c–n’ or something. That right there, that’s when I was like, ‘OK, you know what …’”
Clearly, the two have some bad blood, as we saw throughout the years on the show. But NeNe’s lawsuit points to a deeper issue of favoritism. In the suit, NeNe cited Kandi’s ability to appear on Celebrity Big Brother without conflict, when she was barred from attending an event around the same time. The network called it a “conflict,” as RHOA was airing.
In addition, the suit points to Kandi getting yet another spin-off. Documents state, “At the same time, however, they did negotiate and close a deal with another RHOA: Kandi Burruss secured a deal for her own spin-off, Kandi & The Gang. Mrs. Burruss had not been vocal in calling out the racially-inappropriate behavior over the years to the degree that Mrs. Leakes had been.” Kandi & The Gang is Kandi’s 5th spin-off with Bravo.

NeNe maintains in her suit that she had to endure years of racist remarks from her then castmate, Kim Zolciak-Biermann, who is white. NeNe claims that her complaints about it were ignored. She even believes that she was “blackballed” from the industry because of it. The suit reads in part, “NBC, Bravo and True foster a corporate and workplace culture in which racially insensitive and inappropriate behavior is tolerated — if not, encouraged.”
Kenya Moore, a current RHOA cast member alongside Kandi, hasn’t always seen eye to eye with NeNe either. But back in November of 2021, she credited NeNe for the success of RHOA. Said Kenya, “I know she has a lot of fans and people love her. She has made her mark on the show and she made the show what it is.”
