Artem Chigvintsev Has Had Pneumonia For Four Weeks; Previously Left The Dancing With The Stars Tour Due To "Unexpected Health Issues”

Dancing with the Stars pro Artem Chigvintsev was paired with actress Melora Hardin during Season 30. The duo was sent home just before finals, along with pro Sasha Farber and Olympic gymnast, Suni Lee. Melora was disappointed with the judges’ scoring, feeling that their comments didn’t reflect the actual scores.

The couple performed a sensuous rumba as their redemption dance. “I didn’t feel like [the judges] were judging our performance from who we are, what we came from and how we performed tonight,” Melora stated.

Artem was also disappointed by their elimination. Melora and Artem truly should have danced in the DWTS finals. “The one thing that I felt really sad [about] … I don’t think there’s been, for the past I don’t know how many seasons, a person of [her] age make it this far,” Artem said of his partner.

Then Artem faced some more disappointing news. On January 20, 2022, Artem was forced to leave the DWTS: Live! Tour because he was grappling with “unexpected health issues.”

In a statement on Instagram, Artem explained what happened. “Hi DWTS family – My time on tour so far has been wonderful – unfortunately I am having to step away from tour for a while, due to some unexpected health issues,” Artem posted. “My goal is to recover as quickly as possible so I can rejoin my cast and crew on this incredible tour. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the dance pro wrote. “See you soon, Artem.”

“The DWTS: Live! Tour is continuing as planned with our cast of amazing pros — we wish Artem a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back in the show in the very near future,” a representative for the DWTS tour told Page Six.

Artem’s fiancée, Nikki Bella, told Page Six on February 12, 2022 that Artem is going on his fourth week of having pneumonia. “He still has pneumonia. Monday or Tuesday we’ll get [another] update. He gets his lungs rescanned and we’ll find out if they’re better,” Nikki explained. “The swellings gone down so, fingers crossed. We’re praying really hard that we get good news.”

On February 3, 2002, Artem shared an update on his condition in his Instagram Story. “I had another X-ray done yesterday, and it came back still positive for pneumonia. So I just got another set of antibiotics,” the dancer stated. “This is of course number two.” Poor Artem!

“Hopefully, this one will do the magic, will do the trick, to kick out the pneumonia out of my lungs,” Artem commented. “So that’s where I’m at. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.”

Artem met Nikki on DWTS, and the couple share a son, Matteo. The duo has had to postpone their wedding date because of Covid-19 restrictions on travel. “The one promise I made [Artem] before we can plan is that his parents can attend,” Nikki stated. “And with where the world’s at right now and trying to get two Russian parents into the country, it’s almost impossible. So, the day I can get two visas is the day we will set our date and say, ‘I do.’”
