With the reboot of Real Housewives of Miami in full swing, those who didn’t watch the original series are just getting to know Alexia Echevarria. She appeared on the original series, which ran for three seasons, starting back in 2011. For those who do know her, the self proclaimed “Cuban Barbie” had quite the life. But it’s Alexia’s unflappable confidence and perseverance through adversity that has garnered her comparisons to arguably one of the best housewives of all time, Teresa Giudice.
Twitter and fan accounts have been busy comparing the RHOM and Real Housewives of New Jersey stars. One fan tweeted, “Am I the only one that thinks Alexia and Teresa look like they could be sisters?” Another explained, “Alexia being compared to Teresa makes sense now since both of them are Tauruses and the main girls in their respective shows.”
Now Alexia is sharing her thoughts with Page Six. Her new husband, Todd Nepola, was the one to originally bring it to her attention. Todd misunderstood and assumed that people were referring to the ladies’ physical appearances. Alexia had to explain,“‘Babe, they don’t mean physically.’ They mean, like, my character, and all the adversity that we’ve gone through, and that we’re such strong women, and we’re good moms. We have a lot of similarities.” She added, “But not that we physically look alike, because we don’t. If we did, that’s fine, too, but [Todd] didn’t get that.”
Alexia contributes the similarities top both women being so open about their personal hardships while being on camera. For Teresa, it was going to jail and going through a very public divorce. Alexia dealt with the separation from her husband and his death a year later. She also dealt with the aftermath of discovering he had a sextet gay life that she was unaware of during their marriage. So it’s safe to say they have both been through a a lot. And these examples are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the two housewives.

But Alexia gives Teresa plenty of credit. Said Alexia, “She’s a very strong woman. She’s had to overcome so much, but she still gets back up on her feet, she keeps on going, and I’m very happy for her that she found love again.” Alexia has yet to meet Teresa but is also impressed with the way Teresa has handled all the criticism of her relationship with Luis “Louie” Ruelas. Which looks like it’s going to be the main focal point of the newly started RHONJ season 12.
Alexia concluded, “This is what we signed up to do. It’s her narrative, it’s her story. She should be able to say how it really happened because nobody knows her life more than she does, which is the same thing I say about my life.”
