Kandi Burruss does not sit around and wait for things to come to her. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star is a force in the music industry, but her success in that genre hasn’t stopped her from pursuing other money-making opportunities. Kandi has dabbled in several business ventures, including but not limited to, selling sex toys, a boutique catering to luxury women’s apparel, and the now widely known Old Lady Gang restaurants.
If you work in the food-service industry, you already know the list of rules and regulations to follow is rather intense, but obviously necessary. It goes without saying patrons should be able to dine on quality meals in a sanitary environment without having to avoid spoiled food or vermin running across the table. After a shaky visit by the health inspector in June, Kandi’s Atlanta OLG location received a rating of C. If throwing caution to the wind is your thing and you’re hungry, stop on by, where the food is excellent but you might want to check and make sure it’s fully cooked…
I have seen photos of the food served at OLG and to say it looks mouth-watering is an understatement. There are many things I would do without question, should a fried chicken leg be dangled in front of me, and the dishes at Kandi’s spot are no exception. But if you’re a stickler for certain things like, oh I don’t know, food-borne illnesses, you might want to give it a couple of weeks. In June 2021, Kandi’s Atlanta OLG location was paid a visit by the health inspector who found several violations at the establishment and gave it a C rating. He returned for a follow-up visit in July and on the bright side, things didn’t get any worse.
According to Radar Online, Kandi’s restaurant failed to “improve conditions in the kitchen weeks after being scolded by the health department”. The Georgia Department of Public Health sent an inspector back to the ATL eatery on July 14 and apparently not much changed. Documents state the manager was not taking proper steps to “prevent illness by having repeated risk factors and good retail practice violations”. Translation: you may or may not want to take your own meat thermometer when you go there to eat.

The report also said food was not being stored at the proper temperature. The official stated they witnessed, “time/temperature control for safety food (sliced cheese, raw salmon, and sliced tomatoes) at a temp above 41 degrees Fahrenheit. The person in charge was advised time/temperature control for safety (TCS) foods should be stored at a temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below. Mama Joyce and Aunt Bertha would like a word and good luck to whomever is on the receiving end of that one.
The OLG staff was also clocked for storing food without proper labels and cleaning solutions that were not properly mixed. Yes, would you like your French toast with a side of syrup or Windex? All of this comes shortly after Kandi’s other restaurant Blaze closed briefly to address similar issues and bring the establishment to acceptable levels. Never fear, Southern food lovers, there is little doubt Kandi has a team addressing the OLG concerns and will have someone’s ass on the line. The one thing you do not do is mess with Kandi’s food or her coins.
