Southern Charm looked pretty different this season. For quite a few reasons. It was also our first year without Cameran Eubanks along for the ride. Though she was there in spirit and definitely there in drama.
In case you forgot, the season began with Kathryn Dennis dragging Cameran’s husband, Jason Wimberly through the mud for effectively no reason. Kathryn’s pal Shep Rose has taken his side. Even petty Craig Conover jumped to Cam’s defense. And he loves to gossip! At any rate, it’s never been a secret that Cam keeps her personal life personal. Like, we know Kathryn and production know not to go there. And yet…
Most fans thought Jason might be pleased at Cam’s decision to leave the show. On the contrary, in an interview Cam did on Kate Casey’s podcast that was reported on by Us Weekly she shared, “[Jason] loved it. That’s what’s so sad that they did him so wrong. He was so supportive. Jason was actually the one who was like, ‘No Cam, you’re so good at it. It’s been positive for you.’ He was my biggest cheerleader. He just didn’t want to be on it. He’s actually friends with a lot of people that are on it.”
What a tug on the heartstrings. Then Cam trumped her sympathy card with some production scoop. She shared that the discussion of her husband’s fabled affair felt like “punishment.” She indicated that it was because production was “ticked off” she left. She even said, “I think it was perhaps a way they thought I would come back to defend him. Because if there is one thing you can get me on, what’s the most precious to me is my marriage.”

Cameran revealed that one of the producers called her after the story broke to ask, “Aren’t you going to show up? Aren’t you going to come to this party tonight to defend Jason?” to which she says she replied, “Are you kidding me?”
Cam added, “I could see through what was happening. … So then I thought, ‘Damn, was this maybe a way to get me to show up and film,’ because they figured, well, surely she’s going to come back and defend Jason.”
To me, it was obvious Kathryn was trying to deflect any drama from her own tragic story this season. I mean, she was living with her vile ex-boyfriend at the start. If only she knew what was in store. Maybe she would have collecting allies instead.
