Southern Charm Shep Rose

Shep Rose Welcomes Southern Charm Addressing Racism Head On; Says The Show Has “Never Looked Down On Others”

It’s no secret that Southern Charm has been a Bravo problem child lately. Or maybe since it’s inception? No one can forget Thomas Ravenel’s disgusting past. This recent off-season also caught some flat-out racism from Kathryn Dennis.

Since season 7 began, the cast has been relentlessly going after each other off screen. They are also having to face a metric ton fan criticism. In our newest phase of reality TV and activism, the fourth wall has been demolished.

Entertainment Tonight  confirmed that the Black Lives Mater movement that surged this last summer, has forced Southern Charm to address some previously untouched topics. This was briefly captured in the show’s season trailerShep Rose shared, “I welcome it.” Which feels bold. Even for him.

Shep also revealed, “If we can be a part of that conversation, I mean — I don’t know if anyone will take our opinions seriously, because of our insanity in our six seasons prior, but maybe it can get some people thinking or talking.” Oh dear Shep. We all have been talking. But it’s nice you’re finally joining the conversation.

Many fans have known about the racial history of Charleston and the “family names” that grace our screens for years. After the recent racist “allegations” were launched in Kathryn’s direction, social media exploded with the filmed removal of John C. Calhoun statue. With the history of these characters now being so widely known, the show has been compelled to address the white privilege and other problematic undertones of the show dead on.

Shep added, “I don’t think there’s ever been a mean-spirited sort of, looking-down-our-nose-at-others mantra on the show, not once.” LMAO. Remember when Thomas tried to read his dinner party guests for filth over fine china, crystal, and using the word “sanctimonious.” Looking-down-your-nose is the show.

Shep said, “But to tip-toe and not be yourself, or not — we’re just showing our world, you know? And I’m happy to show all of it, really, ‘cause I don’t have anything to hide, and I don’t have any hatred in my heart. I really don’t. And I don’t think anybody on the show does. So, I’m happy to tackle these things [and] think it’ll be done well.”

Someone just get us to these scenes already! I am dying to see how this turns out.
