90 Day Fiance Deavan

90 Day Fiance: The Other Way Recap: Bris-fully Ignorant

Last night’s episode of 90 Day Fiance The Other Way highlighted why there is never a dull episode on this show. I don’t know if these people just attract crazy or they seek it out. Whatever it is, they seem to think its normal. Insert side eye here!

Ariela Weinberg makes a dramatic choice about her son’s future. Deavan Clegg has suspicions about Jihoon Lee‘s job. Kenneth Niedermeier and Armando Rubio disagree on parenting style. Sumit faces criminal charges in court, and Brittany Banks finally gets news about her divorce. Let’s get straight to the recap!

Jenny, 60 (Palm Springs, California) & Sumit, 30 (India)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way: Bris-fully Ignorant

In another attempt to solidify her future marriage to Sumit, Jenny presents him with a promise ring. But it doesn’t go over as she plans. He is confused why she is giving him a ring now, when they plan to get married one day. He also doesn’t feel comfortable accepting anything, when he is technically still married.

Just when things seemed like they were going in the right direction, another obstacle presents itself. Sumit’s wife has filed charges against him and his family for abuse. She is also requesting $500 a month in spousal support. Jenny and Sumit are currently living off her social security and can’t afford any additional bills.

It’s clear his ex-wife is still upset her husband left and wants revenge. Luckily for Sumit, when he went to court the charges were dropped. Jenny is relieved to find out that they no longer have to worry about another debt hanging over their head. Sumit still has to pay $10,000 to finalize his divorce.

Ariela, 28 (Princeton, New Jersey) and Biniyam, 29 (Ethiopia)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way: Bris-fully Ignorant

As Ariela and Biniyam plan to go home, they are already arguing once again. In Ethiopia, they don’t have the same child safety rules as in the U.S.  But Ariela doesn’t feel comfortable with her newborn traveling without a car seat. She asks Biniyam Shibre to walk home with the baby while she rides in the taxi. When she arrives she is shocked to find several strangers standing outside their apartment.  Who really wants a party on the first day home? She also isn’t happy to learn that she has to witness a sheep slaughtered for a welcome party tradition. Sigh! What a day! All she wanted to do is go home and lay down.

Biniyam’s family comes into the room to visit with Ariela and the baby as soon as she lies down. They don’t waste any time explaining their traditions and making plans. In turn, Ariela feels pressured to have her child baptized at the urging of his aunts. She isn’t ready to make a decision, but Biniyam makes it clear that it’s important to him. I don’t think Ariela is big on compromises, but they may have gotten further if they at least let her get some rest before planning events.

Although Biniyam doesn’t agree with Ariela’s name choice for the baby, he is willing to let it go to keep the peace. She also informs him that she is willing to allow the baby to be baptized, despite her religion. Biniyam is just happy she hasn’t run off  yet. Ariela is petrified about the baby having vaccinations and a circumcision the same day. When it’s time for the circumcision, she takes the baby and storms out. I hate to say this, but I don’t think Biniyam is going to have his dream family very long. I know first time mothers are very protective, but Ariela doesn’t seem to be the type to compromise. It’s almost like Biniyam barely has a say with his own son. Hopefully, they can work through their issues and begin to parent as one, for the sake of their child.

Deavan, 22 (Salt Lake City, Utah) & Jihoon, 29 (South Korea)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way: Bris-fully Ignorant

Deavan visits Jihoon’s job to make sure that he isn’t involved in anything illegal. Is this really the man for you, if you have to do that? While there, she manages to not only annoy him, but his co-workers as well. She also tells his new boss that he used to sell stolen phones. Wow! Although I understand her distrust, given his past, it may not be the best idea to jeopardize his new job. Luckily, the owner isn’t bothered by her shenanigans and still wants to employ Jihoon.

Jihoon takes Deavan to meet his parents at a famous wedding venue to plan their second wedding. But she is disappointed to find out this place is like a Vegas chapel. They have several quick one hour weddings in a day. She becomes even more frustrated when she feels like her traditions aren’t being taken into consideration. Instead of her dream wedding, she is left settling for a preplanned version.  She could have just had one wedding in Korea and the second in the U.S.

Kenneth, 57 (St. Petersburg, Florida) and Armando 31, (Mexico)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way: Bris-fully Ignorant

Kenneth Niedermeier and  Armando Rubio have finally brought Hannah to see her new home. She will have her own room for the first time. Kenneth is going to have to bite the bullet and learn Spanish. He has moved to a Spanish speaking country to help parent a child who only speaks her native language. While out with Hannah, Kenneth and Armando have their first disagreement.

Armando is not accustomed to anyone critiquing his parenting. Kenneth on the other hand, believes Armando spoils his daughter and that needs to change as they learn to co-parent. Armando acknowledges he does go above and beyond, but it’s only because she has lost her mother. I am kind of shocked by Kenneth. I think he should have discussed parenting with Armando prior to challenging Armando in front of his daughter.

Brittany, 26 (Palm Beach, Florida) and Yazan, 24 (Jordan)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way: Bris-fully Ignorant

Brittany has returned back home to Florida to visit with her dad and her dog while she is in the U.S. But she has demanded that Yazan Abo Horira make enough money to get an apartment for the two of them before returning to Jordan. After becoming an outcast from his family and losing his job, he is now working 14 hours a day at two jobs to support himself. When they speak via video call, Yazan is very irritated that he is only sacrificing anything for their relationship.

She doesn’t seem to understand if she intends to live in Jordan there are some fundamental things she will have to change. Namely the way she dresses. I don’t think she realizes how bad things have become for Yazan since she left. He literally lived on the street until he was able to find a job. Brittany has to be one of the most selfish people in the history of this show.

Brittany is officially divorced!!! After lying and sneaking around all of this time, she finally got her wish. Now she is questioning if marrying Yazan is the right choice. She is still concerned that Yazan will always choose his family’s happiness, over hers. When she meets with a close friend, she shares examples of him telling her one thing and his family another. She intends on giving him an ultimatum once she sees him. Sigh! This is not going to go well. I’m surprised she is even going back, to tell you the truth. She literally doesn’t plan to change anything in order to assimilate to the culture. I don’t see how their relationship can survive if that is the case.

TELL US – SHOULD SUMIT HAVE ACCEPTED THE PROMISE RING? SHOULD KENNETH TAKE A STEP BACK WHEN ARMANDO MAKES DECISIONS FOR HANNAH? IS BRITTANY BEING SELFISH OR ARE HER CONCERNS VALID? DO YOU THINK ARIELA IS WILLING TO COMPROMISE WITH THE PARENTING OF HER AND BINIYAM’S CHILD?
