Last night’s episode of 90 Day Fiance The Other Way highlighted some of the issues that may plague the couples’ relationships throughout their journey. If you ask me, some of these people are headed straight for heartbreak. All are willing to take risks for love, but the reward is not guaranteed.
Deavan Clegg has serious doubts before moving back to South Korea. Kenneth Niedermeier has an emotional family dinner. Ariela‘s family confronts her about Biniyam‘s motives. Jenny Slatten takes a leap of faith to be with Sumit. Brittany is headed to Jordan, despite her shocking secret. Let’s get straight to the 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way recap!
Deavan, 22 (Salt Lake City, Utah) & Jihoon, 29 (South Korea)
After a few weeks of living with Jihoon Lee and his parents, Deavan made the difficult decision to return to America. Now she wants to give her husband a second chance to step up for her and the children. This time around, Deavan has secured an apartment, so she doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. She also is bringing condoms, “extra snug size” so that there are no surprises. Umm… Deavan, maybe you should have kept that to yourself. Her mother will also join her for the first ten days in South Korea to make sure Jihoon has truly changed.
Deavan video calls Jihoon to check in on his progress before her big move. She reminds him that she only paid for the rental for one month. He is expected to support their family financially moving forward.

Jihoon claims he got a new job, but struggles when asked his salary. Deavan sees red flags immediately and wonders if he is lying to her once again. All signs point to yes. He is supposedly working two jobs, but gets very nervous when the topic of money is brought up. This seems very reminiscent of how he acted in the past. Deavan, I hope you have money to get home, just in case.
Brittany, 26 (Palm Beach, Florida) and Yazan, 24 (Jordan)
Yazan is taking a great risk bringing an American non-Muslim woman into his family. He tries to convince his brother despite her sexy persona, she is a good woman. But, if Brittany does anything to embarrass Yazan’s family, he runs the risk of being disowned. Well Yazan, you may want to start packing your bags now. Besides the fact that she is already married, she has no desire to be as conservative and devout as the women he is accustomed to. This isn’t going to end well.
Brittany has to guzzle down wine just to get mentally ready to get on the plane to Jordan. On the way to airport, her father tells her she should have spoken to Yazan about her marital status before leaving.

Naturally, he is worried about his daughter’s safety going to a country with a culture vastly different from her own. I love her dad, he seems so sweet. It’s clear they have a special bond. Personally, I am really worried that Brittany has bitten off more than she can chew. I don’t think it’s smart to wait until she gets to a foreign country to reveal a secret of this magnitude.
Ariela, 28 (Princeton, New Jersey) and Biniyam, 29 (Ethiopia)
Ariela has a tense conversation with her family about Biniyam and his intentions. Apparently, he was previously married to an American woman, who he shares a child with. Although she isn’t aware of the reason for their divorce, she fully trusts that Biniyam isn’t using her. Her family, on the other hand, isn’t quite sure. I will reserve my opinion until we finally see them interact.
Jenny, 60 (Palm Springs, California) & Sumit, 30 (India)
Sumit asks his brother to help him get the house he rented ready for Jenny’s arrival. His parents still don’t accept the relationship due the situation and her age. Sumit passionately explains to his brother that Jenny has been the only one who has supported him when even his own family didn’t. He wants a chance at happiness, regardless of the concerns of his loved ones. Sumit’s brother promises to speak to their parents on his behalf.
Honestly, I don’t think there is anything anyone can say to make them ever like Jenny. The situation has been so public, there is bound to always be some distaste towards her. Hopefully, for Jenny’s sake, Sumit is telling the truth about his pending divorce. I would hate for this woman to be played a second time.

The day has arrived for Jenny to head back to India. When her daughter arrives to pick her up, she asks if Jenny has proof of Sumit’s pending divorce. Of course, the answer is no. Sumit conveniently couldn’t get the paperwork from his lawyer due to a holiday.
As much as I envy a person who always sees the glass as half full, it just isn’t practical in situations such as this. There is no way I would have gone back to India after the last disastrous trip, without certain assurances. But clearly, Jenny has chosen to throw caution to the wind for a chance at love.
Kenneth, 57 (St. Petersburg, Florida) and Armando 31, (Mexico)
Kenneth and his family decide to celebrate thanksgiving early now that he is moving to Mexico in a week. During dinner, he reveals Armando Rubio’s age and his intention to propose to him. Kenneth may be 57, but he looks damn good for his age.

Things get emotional when his family questions whether he will be accepted by Armando’s family. I’m sure it will be very hard to leave such a close-knit family, to become a part of one that doesn’t accept you. I hope that things work out, this is one of the few couples I am routing for at this point.
