The Hills: New Beginnings was, likely, highly anticipated by the audience that loved watching the original show a decade ago. The gamble with the reboot was whether those core consumers would tune in, especially since leading ladies Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari did not sign on.
Maybe fans are watching out of pure sentiment. Most of the cast that did return are living very different lives as parents and spouses. Even Brody Jenner has settled down. But the group still gets together and either mesh together as great friends or bicker. And that is very relatable still
Whatever the reason for its success, the show will be back for a second season. According to Page Six, MTV made the announcement Monday, despite being only five episodes into the first season.
So what made the reboot work? Mischa Barton was a great addition as the voice of reason. Brandon Lee is surprisingly mature and focused. Maybe the show could improve with more opines from Brandon.

Amazingly, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt seem more grounded and reasonable. Maybe that’s the result of tapping your third eye with crystals for a decade. They are currently having a falling out with Brody. On a side note, Brody decided to play pretend firefighter during the fire evacuations in Malibu last episode.
Stephanie Pratt can’t be bothered with natural disasters as she pursues Justin Bobby Brescia. Producers tried to make Justin and Audrina Patridge a thing again. But he’s back to his old tricks and Audrina is not having it. She is also not having Stephanie flirting with Justin and the cattiness is coming out.

Stephanie is definitely the point of conflict this time, mainly with her brother Spencer. Their dysfunction goes back a decade. But one Pratt villain is more than enough, and Stephanie can only identify as a victim. Mere days after the news about season 2 came out, Stephanie revealed that she will not be participating. She moved back to London right after filming wrapped for Season 1. London is, “where evil siblings don’t exist.”
It looks like the rest of the season 1 will not disappoint on the drama.
