Dorinda Medley seems to be starting a new chapter on the Real Housewives of New York. First, she managed to make peace with Luann de Lesseps, which is difficult, since neither of them knows her way around an apology. Then, like Luann, she decided it was time to move. Even though Dorinda’s embracing a new neighborhood in Manhattan rather than a round house, she adores it just as much.
By the standards of the Big Apple, Dorinda’s new pad is huge. That doesn’t mean there’s room for her boyfriend John Mahdessian. Despite his eagerness to move in, Dorinda made it clear that she wasn’t looking for a roommate….or a husband. “Past a certain age, people should not be allowed to be married,” Dorinda, said in a Real Housewives confessional. She also remarked, “It’s for the young! They have tolerance, they have dreams, they want babies. You get to my age and it’s just the opposite. I don’t even want a plant in my house!”
Dorinda and John are not on the same page when it comes to the topic of marriage. In an interview with Page Six, Dorinda said that when John learned what she said, he was “A little hurt. But I said, ‘John, what are you hurt about? Statistically, we’ve been together longer than most couples. We’re going on seven years now.”
Despite John’s reaction, Dorinda said she stands by her comments. “We love each other and support each other, and for me, I don’t know what the point would be,” she added.
Dorinda shared, “I think marriage is for young people because you want different things. You want children, you want a home together, you want to grow in a certain way. I’ve seen and done that twice.”

Dorinda was previously married to Ralph Lynch for about 10 years. They share a daughter Hannah Lynch. In 2005, Dorinda married financier Dr. Richard Medley. He died of liver failure in 2011. Since his passing, Dorinda said she’s enjoyed focusing on herself again.
Dorinda also told Page Six, “I came home the other night from the Berkshires to my apartment. Hannah was out of town, I didn’t tell John I was coming back, and there’s something glorious about being with yourself. I love it. I sometimes forget to take care of myself, so it’s nice…I’ve never been so selfish with myself ever as I’ve been since Richard died, which is part of the healing process.”

On a recent episode of RHONY, Dorinda said she thought the dynamic of her relationship with John would change if they married. “If John and I lived together 24 hours, seven days a week, it would affect our relationship,” she said. “We’d have a 2,000-square-foot apartment for 12,000 square feet of personality. It just wouldn’t fit!”
Dorinda welcomes John’s presence in all other parts of her life. That includes her new Sirius XM radio show, “Make It Nice.” “Of course we’re going to have the sultan of stains and the maverick of fabric on,” she told Page Six about John.

John runs the luxury dry cleaning business Madame Paulette. “He’s very excited,” Dorinda said. “He thinks he’s going to take over the whole show. He’s like, ‘Wait ’til I get on the show and talk about my stains.'” Oh yuck: now tell me how to get that stain out of my memory!
